DCF Announcement Coming Tuesday Morning After Infant Deaths

Several politicians have called for the resignation of Department of Children and Families Commissioner Olga Roche.

State Health and Human Services Secretary John Polanowicz is expected to make a major announcement this morning regarding the Department of Children and Families after two toddlers died.

Polanowicz will hold a news conference at 9:15 a.m., according to the Boston Herald.

On Saturday, Bailey Irish, a 2-week-old Fitchburg baby, died while under the care of DCF officials.

Authorities are also investigating the April 11 death of Aliana Lavigne, a 4-week-old Grafton child also under the care of DCF.

Several politicians have called for the resignation of DCF Commissioner Olga Roche.

Derek though I agree with the part of training staff, you also need staff to do the work. DCF is understaffed in the field.

They just realized theres a problem with this program? They investigate those unnecessarily, but dont do enough for the children who are really abused- totally disgusting.

Thanks to Rep. Leah Cole for keeping the pressure on this when she co authored that letter to Patrick months ago telling him to release her. Keep up the good work.

DCF is a ridiculously overworked, understaffed, underpaid agency. But this director had to go after all of these tragedies on her watch.
