Michael Kennedy's girlfriend ran in Monday's while his friends donned shirts saying "Dork Strong".
Friends of fallen Boston Firefighter Michael Kennedy on Monday were among the crowd at the Boston Marathon, donning tee shirts with the words "Dork Strong" in honor of his nickname, WHDH reported.
Kennedy, a native of West Roxbury and Roslindale, died alongside Boston Fire Lt. Ed last month while battling a nine-alarm fire that broke in a building in Back Bay. He ran last year's Boston Marathon and had been training to run in this year's race.
But he was there in spirit, as his girlfriend, Sarah Wessmann, a spectator at last year's race, was able to run on Monday, according to WHDH.
