Getting to Know... Police Captain James Hasson

The leader of District E-5 talks about West Roxbury food and his beloved dog.

National studies have shown that when a community knows its police force - crime goes down. The men and women who work at are out on our streets day in and day out. 

At West Roxbury Patch we are geared towards helping the community, so this week we will be having a series of Getting to Know several E-5 staff members.

How long have you been a captain? For seven years (in the BPD), and I was in Roxbury before here.

Nicknames? No nicknames. None that they say to my face.

How many years have you been on the BPD? 23 years.

Why did you join the BPD? Good opportunity for security. The main reason was to help others.

What do you like best about the job? Helping people with their problems.

Favorite place to eat in West Roxbury? Used to be Samia’s. Now it is... politically, I want to stay out of this one. I love them all.

Favorite thing about West Roxbury? The residents. They’re all nice.

Hobbies? Hiking, running.

Anything else you'd like to share? I have a dog, a Tibetan terrier, named Jingles, he came to my house on Christmas morning 10 years ago. Santa brought him for my kids. But the thing I like about him, he doesn’t have one mean bone in his body, he is a totally lovable dog.
