Police spoke with several residents of Manthorne Road who stated they had woken up to the sound of a woman screaming for help on their street, according to a Boston Police report. Residents said they heard a male screaming, too, and the woman was yelling, "Stop!" None of the residents claimed to have seen what transpired between the man and woman, just that they heard the altercation, exited their homes - and then saw the man, Mercier, running up Manthorne Road towards Weld Street.

Police found the woman was found sitting on the steps of a Manthorne Road residence. The woman allegedly told police she and her boyfriend had been in argument and he chased her out of their home.
