A total of 56 patients were transported to other hospitals after the water had to be shut off Friday morning.

More than 50 patients were evacuated from the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital's Nursing and Therapy Center Center in West Roxbury on Friday morning after a water main break occurred on the building's property.

The broken water main outside the facility flooded the basement early Friday morning with several inches of water, and because the water had to be shut off, staff were forced to transfer 56 patients to other area facilities, according to WCVB.

Patients were being transferred Friday morning to Spaulding's facility in Boston's North End, as well as nearby at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital and Hebrew Rehabilitation Center.
