Middletown Police Lt. Heather Desmond said an investigation is ongoing to determine if there were any other victims of Michael T. McKenna, who was charged with voyeurism on Feb. 17 on the Wesleyan University campus.

Original story

A West Hartford man is facing voyeurism and related charges after police say he secretly videotaped a female student using the Wesleyan University library toilet and was found with a camera containing multiple similar video clips.

Michael T. McKenna, 30, of Maplewood Avenue, West Hartford, faces third-degree criminal trespass, breach of peace and voyeur charges after police summoned to the university's Olin Library by campus security said a student had seen a man filming her with a camera while she used the restroom, according to the report.

On Feb. 17 at 7:55 p.m., the victim entered the bathroom stall, police say, she heard a recording device beep and saw a pair of feet in black socks in the last stall, began to use the toilet, looked underneath the stall and saw a silver digital camera pointed in her direction, the report details.

Police say the victim left but returned with a friend who saw McKenna standing in a dark hallway trying to get a glimpse of the victim. Campus security located him on the library's second floor, the report indicates, with the victim's description. McKenna told officers he wasn't a student but was walking around after arguing with his roommate, the report says.

The victim identified McKenna, who asked why he was being questioned, police say, and led them to his car. A silver Olympus digital camera was found in McKenna's Ford Explorer, police say, after he asked for leniency for cooperating. Fourteen videos were found on the camera, the report says, of females using the toilet.

He admitted to officers, the report says, that he uses these videos to share and view on his computer, "is not proud of his fetish, but cannot help it."

An investigation determined McKenna had also been asked to leave Dartmouth College after being discovered there as a non-student, police indicate.

He was released on a $15,000 non-surety bond and is due back in court March 4.
