An alleged shoplifter trying to steal a cartload of goods was able to get away from a Shaw's employee after being confronted in the parking lot in West Roxbury.
On Jan. 28 around 11:40 a.m., Boston Police spoke with a loss prevention employee of Shaw's who said an unknown female was observed attempting to conceal items in the pharmacy area of the store, according to a Boston Police report. The suspect allegedly put a large number of items in a shopping cart, and then left the store without stopping at any points of sale. The total amount of items in the cart totaled $343.58.
The employee said he stopped the suspect at the curb outside the store, and said, "Ma'am, you didn't pay for your items." He said the woman allegedly replied, "Oh, OK, here you go" and gave the cart full of items to the employee. The suspect then walked into the parking lot and got into a black or green Ford Explorer and left the parking lot on its way towards Dedham, according to a Boston Police report.
Police were shown surveillance footage of the theft and will be made a copy.
