Coppinger Named Vice-Chair of Steering, Policy and Scheduling

State Rep. Coppinger keeps seats on Financial Services and State Administration and Regulatory Oversight committees.

For the 188th Session of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, State Rep. Ed Coppinger will continue his work on the Joint Committees on Financial Services and the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight.

In only his second term in the House, Coppinger, D-West Roxbury, was named the Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Steering, Policy and Scheduling.

As Vice-Chair, Coppinger will have more responsibilities and work closely with Chairman Louis Kafka to identify the major issues in the House of Representatives. The House Committee on Steering, Policy and Scheduling schedules when legislation will come to the floor of the House.

“I am grateful to Speaker DeLeo for my committee assignments and I look forward to our next session in the House of Representatives,” said Coppinger via press release.

The Joint Committee of Financial Services regulates the banking and insurance industries.  “I have a background in the mortgage industry so I believe my small business experience and experience helping customers buy homes will bring a much needed perspective to the Financial Services Committee,” said Coppinger.

The Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight looks at legislation dealing with public contracts, open meeting laws, state agencies, as well as regulations and laws governing lobbyists. “I promised to work for open state government when I first ran for office and one of the first bills I voted for in my first term was an overhaul of hiring laws. This committee plays a key role in this work for open and responsible government so I am happy to serve on it again this session,” said Coppinger.
