Mayor Menino Remains in Hospital, Unsure When Leaving

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has been in the hospital for nearly two weeks with an upper respiratory infection, a blood clot, and also a fracture in his back.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino remains in Brigham & Women's Hospital, and he is expected to remain there throughout at least the weekend.

"The mayor is doing well; getting better every day. I do not know when he might be out," said John Guilfoil, spokesperson for the Mayor's Office.

Menino checked into the hospital after returning from an anniversary trip from Italy with his wife, Angela, in October.

He was originally hospitalized for an upper respiratory infection. While in the hospital he also been getting treatment for a small blood clot in one of his legs. And most recently he suffered an injury to his back.

"He did sustain a compression fracture in his back, which doctors think may have been from the way he was positioned in bed," said Guilfoil.

Menino continues to meet regularly with city officials and "he was very involved in preparations for this latest storm, as well as Election Day and Superstorm Sandy."

The Mayor is also receiving visits from officials and communicating via phone, too.
