O'Malley and Tobin Go Door Knocking in West Roxbury

O'Malley fielded questions from residents about speeding on Baker Street, schools and development.

Current District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley recently door-knocked the Kilmer School neighborhood with the person who last held the District 6 seat, John Tobin.

"My good friend and predecessor, and really one of my mentors, John Tobin has always been a big supporter of mine and after I took over for him more than two years ago," said O'Malley to Patch. "John offered to take me around his neighborhood and we spent 2.5 hours seeing old and new friends and talked about the issues in meeting with voters in Precinct 16 (of Ward 20)."

O'Malley opponent in November, West Roxbury resident Luis Valerio, has also been seen at neighborhood events letting O'Malley know he has an opponent. There is no preliminary election because they are the only two candidates for the District 6 City Council seat.

During O'Malley's door-knocking he said speeding on Baker Street was brought up by residents and is always an issue. Other residents spoke with the current councilor about different issues with public schools.

"I think it’s important to be around to solicit feedback," said O'Malley. "I use door knocking to talk about what I’ve done, but also to see any issue in the neighborhood at the street level and ask what concerns and constituent issues I need to work on and what they need help with."
