VIDEO: Brown Supporter Gets in Face of Videographer at Holy Name Rotary

A Scott Brown supporter's vehicle double-parked at the Holy Name Rotary to block a vehicle with a sign for Elizabeth Warren.

Politics and double-parking - two things the Parkway loves came together at the Holy Name Rotary on Wednesday morning.

The following photos and video were sent by a Parkway resident, who said his father parks his truck at the Holy Name Rotary with a pro-Elizabeth Warren sign, and that a vehicle was purposely doubleparked to block the sign.

While US Sen. Scott Brown supporters were doing their thing appropriately, one Brown supporter got in the face of the videographer, who remained silent while documenting the double parking. You can hear other Brown supporters telling the agitated individual to forget about the videographer.

Some folks said the van double-parked blocking the Elizabeth Warren-clad vehicle was allegedly by a parent dropping off a child at the Holy Name School, which a police officer allegedly confirmed to the videographer.

Were you there? What did you think of what was happening? Did someone purposefully and illegally double-park to block an Elizabeth Warren sign on a vehicle that was legally parked?

I think both sides need to start being more respectful to each other. This isn't a civil war, it's an election. Whomever wins, there will be a good chunk of the population whose candidate lost. Those people will still be our neighbors. The degree to which people get so worked up and emotional is bad for the country. Pick your candidate; campaign if you like; but don't demonize the other side.

The camerman wasn't looking for a confrontation just a record of the black truck double-parked for political purposes. Is the double-parked truck owned by the Scott Brown supporter on the video who said he could do anything he wanted because he was in the service? That's a testament to the fact that loyalty can make you say transparently stupid things. I live in West Roxbury. In my neighborhood near St Theresa's there are more Brown signs in yards than Warren signs which surprises me becuase many of them are municipal employees. Scott Brown voted against The Teachers and First Responders Back to Work Act, so it's likely that many of their friends are unemployed becuase of the vote Scott Brown took. What bothers me about it, is that Republicans, for all of Scott Brown's term in the US Senate have been trying to obstruct to make President Obama a one-term president, and without Scott Brown 41st vote, they could not employ this strategy. I find this use of power grossly irresponsible when Americans are suffering through no fault of their own. If Scott Brown had gotten on board with all of the jobs bills, 22,000 more Mass residents would be employed today. Back to the point about signs, people in my neighborhood are leaving each other's Warren and Brown signs alone, and that makes me proud.

I don't understand why the agitated man got in the face of the videographer. Anyone know this guy? He should've provided his name. And someone needs to explain to him that he can NOT say anything he wants just because he served in the military for five years.

I drove by this and there was no way that the car belonged to someone dropping their kid off at Holy Name. It was there at 7:25 in the morning and Holy Name doesn't start that early...in fact their upper parking lot was fairly empty. The car was clearly parked to block the Elizabeth Warren supporter. It doesn't matter which side of the fence that you fall on, to double park in this manner was juvenile and at a minimum deserving of a ticket for parking illegally.

This is more comedy than anything else!

Thank you, Kristina, for the info about the double-parked vehicle. I would suggest that if someone sees something like this happen again to call the police, or walk into the station 50 feet away.

Not shocked that this guy would try to bully the camera guy Scott Brown has been bullying Ms. Warren the whole campaign
Neil October 05, 2012 at 09:06 PM
Paul makes a good point about the bullying. That's what mocking her family heritage is, bullying. Conservatives at the Herald picked it up from Scott Brown in May and have been running with it ever since. All the talk radio types have been stoking the bullying since then too. It wasn't until the video of Scott Brown Senate staff outside the Eire pub in Dorchester hit the national news that ANYONE called them out for the bullying and racialized attack. Now Scott Brown is trying to turn everything into an attack on her character. She worked for Dow and setup a $3.4 Billion trust for people harmed by their beast implant product. So, Scott Brown attacks her professional reputation as an attorney. She worked on a case involving asbestas litigation. Once again Scott Brown says it proves she in it for herself, not working people. But the asbestos workers say his ad on TV is a lie. Once again, he attacks her character. What I see her attacking is his voting record in the senate. Isn't that what this race is about, whether your senator votes in your interests?

Much ado about nothing. The cranky old guy shouldn't have run up to the camera. Whoever parked there parked illegally and shouldn't have done so. Brown will win West Roxbury despite this non event.

I am so sick and tired of Elizabeth Warren, Scott Brown, and Mitt Romeny and the POTUS. This country is a mess....Warren is the last thing we need along with more of Obama...but all this mudslinging and BS needs to stop. I am voting for Scott Brown, but this is the second time his supporters have ended up in the news for a negative reason. Brown needs to get his campaign under control. I will vote for him but not because of all the signs, calls, and endless commercials. I am an educated person. I don't need all this noise to tell me who I should vote for and why. I can read. Everyone just needs to knock it off.
Carolyn Crilly October 06, 2012 at 04:14 AM
I agree with Mr LaRosa...much to do about nothing . I am sure we can find a few more videos from the other side. Who cares! The supporter got fired up and behaved poorly and should not have run up to the camera. What does that have to do with the issues and who we vote for. I support Scott Brown and this stupid video isn't going to change that.

Are you kidding me that this is news? An old guy yelling at a young person with one of those new, fancy-shmancy, cell phones. Really Patch? Is this really news? Journalism at its finest! Scott Brown will win with or without signs. I have faith in my fellow neighbors in West Roxbury to make the right decision for our country.

All sign-holders and campaign workers should try to remain peaceful witnesses / advocates for their candidate. It all works much better that way. I could believe that BOTH trucks were "strategically" placed, but the aggressive and boorish behavior on the part of some Brown supporters ( i.e.: double-parking and confrontation) is telling. Are there are so few positive points to be made about Brown, that the strategy MUST be to attack and smear Elizabeth Warren and her supporters? I fear there won't be much "bi-partisanship" from Brown if he gets a 6-year term. He voted Republican on the important votes anyway, which I'm sure is what the sign-carrying supporters want. This independent voter wants some balance against the unhealthy influence that giant corporations wield on our Main St. Yes, their profits matter, but so do our lives.
Steve Hurl October 06, 2012 at 02:59 PM
I totally agree with you, Neil. People need to know that Warren's work ON BEHALF of asbestos victims and breast implant victims has been not just misconstrued, but FALSELY CHARACTERIZED. She was testifying as to the legality and effectiveness of setting up the trust funds. She had NOTHING TO DO with the legal maneuvering that happened to, and also because of Travelers Insurance, which resulted in them reneging on payments to the trust. These typically Republican smear tactics really stink. Notice that Democrats don't typically call Brown a "porn star" for having posed naked-- it's an unfair exaggeration, right? Warren runs a clean campaign, because she has truth on her side.

About NOTHING? I suppose it would be something if you were the one behind the camera, or maybe your daughter doing a story for her high school newspaper. This is assault, plain and simple. And if you feel it has nothing to do with the campaign, that may or may not be correct. It does, however, say something about the group who watched this happen. This man or woman videographer should have been defended by someone there on the street from this assault. Video taping illegally parked vehicles now opens you up to justifiable assault? Not in my neighborhood! If I had seen this, I would have intervened, despite my political leanings.
