Improving Boston Public School Choice Online Survey Deadline July 4

Last day to fill out Boston Public Schools online survey about school assignment is July 4.

 

July 4 is the last day to take the Boston Public Schools online surveys for improving school choice.

More than 2,000 people have taken the surveys, according to school officials. Take the survey online here at Bostonschoolchoice.org.

Through community meetings since March, schools officials have gathered feedback about school choice, which has been added to the above website, with analysis like this:

Participants from Charlestown, Downtown, parts of North Dorchester, the North End, East Boston (in forums) and West Roxbury tended to ask for the ability to choose a school in their neighborhood. In Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Mattapan and Roxbury, participants were more likely to select “safety” over “close to home” when asked about choice preferences.

Boston Public School officials are also hosting the following upcoming meetings throughout Boston:

Downtown

Wed., July 11, 6-8 p.m.: Suffolk University 9th floor conference room, 73 Tremont St., Boston. Chinese interpretation provided (Note: Visitors will have to show I.D. at the first floor security desk. No child care will be available at this meeting.) 

Mattapan

Thurs., July 12, 6- 8 p.m.: Mildred Ave. K-8 School, 5 Mildred Ave., Mattapan. Haitian Creole interpretation provided.

East Boston

Tue., July 17, 6-8 p.m.: Mario Umana Academy, 312 Border St., East Boston. Spanish interpretation provided

Roxbury

Wed., July 18, 5-7 p.m.: O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science 1st floor library, 55 Malcolm X Blvd., Roxbury. 
In partnership with Phillips Brooks House Association Summer Programs Chinese, Haitian Creole, Spanish interpretation provided. 

Charlestown

Thurs., July 19, 6-8 p.m.: Warren/Prescott K-8 School, 50 School St., Charlestown
. Spanish interpretation provided.

Chinatown

Saturday, July 21, 10 a.m.-Noon: Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Association, 38 Ash St.
 Cantonese and Mandarin interpretation provided.

Brighton

Tuesday, July 24, 6-8 p.m.: Edison K-8 School, 60 Glenmont Rd., Brighton. 
Chinese, Spanish interpretation provided. 

Boston Public School officials will also be hosting Saturday information tables in partnership with the Committee for Boston Public Housing at Boston Housing Authority Unity Day celebrations:

  • Cathedral (South End): July 14, 12-4 p.m.
  • Lenox/Camden (Roxbury): July 21, 12-4 p.m.
  • Mission Main (Roxbury): July 28, 12-4 p.m.

The Boston Public Schools Improving School Choice External Advisory Committee meets monthly (the next meeting is July 23). The Data Subcommittee will meet on July 10 and the Community Engagement Subcommittee will meet on July 31. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.
