Local Students Perform in Catholic Memorial's 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead'

CM’s drama club, which included young women from Ursuline Academy, rehearsed the play through the fall.

Catholic Memorial School’s drama club performed Tom Stoppard’s award-winning play "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" on November 17-18, with a cast that included Parkway residents Devin Williams-Agyeman, Kevin Gill, Darryl Dorsainvil, and Joe Toscano-MacDonald.

Williams-Agyeman played Alfred, Gill played Claudius, and Dorsainvil and Toscano-MacDonald tragedians in the absurdist drama, one in which Stoppard pokes fun at Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The two lead characters, arguably the most insignificant in Shakespeare’s play, never leave the stage in Stoppard’s retelling, as they wonder aloud about existence, vengeance, identity and fate.

CM’s drama club, which included young women from Ursuline Academy, rehearsed the play through the fall. They added their own twist to it and gave it new life, said director Nick Colarossi.

“Our cast did a great job with Stoppard’s rapid-fire dialogue and absurdism,” Colarossi said. “The play works well as a farce and commentary on the meaning of life, but it had them all asking what part they play and what their futures will be.”
