West Roxbury's Wang, Arts Leader, Earns Citizens Bank Scholarship

Wang was an arts leader for From the Top, teaching El Sistema, which incorporated daily music lessons after regular school hours.

West Roxbury's Edalina Wang earned second prize in Citizens Bank's annual TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship program, and received a $1,000 scholarship to help with tuition at Northwestern this fall.

“We are amazed and inspired once again this year by students like Edalina who have dedicated so much of their time and energy to helping others in communities across the country,” said Jerry Sargent, President, Citizens Bank Massachusetts, via press release. “As a private student lender offering affordable solutions to help students finance their college education and a company committed to contributing to the health and vibrancy of our local communities, we are honored to recognize and reward Edalina and all the TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship winners for their efforts.”

Wang was an arts leader for From the Top, teaching El Sistema, which incorporated daily music lessons after regular school hours. She worked to expand the program and organized a foundation concert for the Somerville community, dedicating more than 500 hours in preparation. In the fall of 2012, Wang’s efforts succeeded when Somerville launched a program, giving students the opportunity to participate without extra travel to get to the music lessons.
