Date Set for Annual Walter’s Run in West Roxbury

Registration is now open for a popular West Roxbury 5k December dash.

Registration is now open for the annual Walter’s Run, which is held every December in West Roxbury.

The race was renamed in 2004 in memory of  well-known Parkway Running Club member Walter Burgess, who assed away suddenly in November 2003 at the age of 40, shortly after having completed the Great Floridian Ironman Triathlon.

The race was originally known as the Santa Scamper 5k and began in  1994.  Some runners wear elf hats, others Christmas suits while others bundle up in winter gear, and some wear just shorts and a T-shirt.  Just like the outfits, the weather can vary too.  In 2010 it rained, and in 2011 it snowed.  Anything is expected.
