Holiday Decorations Go Up On West Roxbury's Centre Street

West Roxbury, Mass. – On Sunday, November 24th holiday decorations went up on Centre Street. Through last year’s “Raise Some Green for West Roxbury” fundraiser, planned and sponsored by State Representative Ed Coppinger, decorations were installed on Centre Street again for the third year in a row to help celebrate the holiday season. There were also 60 green decorations added this year that were purchased from a woman owned business in Jamaica Plain.

Representative Coppinger remarked, “Because of our hard work last year in fundraising, we were able to purchase long-lasting decorations. This year because of the Mayor’s race and another fundraiser organized for a local teen, I did not have another “Raise Some Green for West Roxbury” fundraising event.  I did receive another generous donation from the Bligh Family and the Corrib Charitable Trust as well as some smaller donations which allowed us to purchase the 60 decorated greens to be placed on the poles that did not have lights.”

“I also need to say a huge thank you again this year to Keith Barry, Jack McCarthy, Mark McKeown, Bruce Higgins, Joe Sullivan and John Creighton who volunteered their time for the third year in a row hanging the decorations. Michael Iceland from West Roxbury Main Streets was another big help and wants to work together going forward. Alan MacKinnon from Gethsemane Cemetery allowed us to use a truck, let us store the decorations at his facility, and helps this community in so many ways. I need to give a special thank you to Mayor-Elect Marty Walsh who helped me secure two donated bucket trucks from Sully Mac – who also paid two of their employees to drive the trucks for us - so we could get the decorations up this past weekend before the holiday shopping season begins,” concluded Representative Coppinger.
