Drive-Ins and Outdoor Films Around Boston

Here's a round-up of drive-ins, outdoor screenings and movies you won't want to miss this summer.

By Ivy Jacobson

Planning to catch up on movies this summer? Whether you're relaxing in an air-conditioned theater, watching an outdoor summer movie series in the park, or going the old-fashioned route and pulling up at a drive-in — here's a list of free outdoor movie screenings you won't want to miss this summer. Boston Harbor Hotel shows classic films every Friday starting at dusk.

Several DCR parks (including the Hatch Shell) and beaches have free, family-friendly movie events through the summer.

Out in Somerville, the free outdoor events schedule features more kid-friendly fare.

If you want an authentic Drive-In movie experience, you'll have to it the highway. The closest Drive-In to Boston is the Mendon Twin. The nightly double-features start around 8:40 p.m., and generally start with a kids movie followed by a Summery blockbuster.
