West Roxbury Woman Charged with OUI after Accident in Westwood

  A West Roxbury woman was arrested on drunk driving charges after a single motor vehicle crash in Westwood. On Sunday, June 16, around 2:45 a.m. Michelle Barrett, 20, of West Roxbury, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a marked lanes violation, according to a Massachusetts State Police press release.  Massachusetts State Police responded to the Exit 13 ramp in Westwood, and Barrett allegedly told police an animal had jumped in front of her vehicle causing her to drive into the guardrail. Fugitive from Justice Arrested in West Roxbury, Extradited to Rhode Island

  A fugitive from justice wanted in Rhode Island for assault and battery and witness intimidation was arrested in West Roxbury. On June 11, Patrick Moran, of 19 Connecter Road, Westborough, was arrested on a warrant out of Concord District Court on May 17, 2013, for assault and battery and witness intimidation, according to a Boston Police report. Complaints were sought in the West Roxbury Disitrict Court to arrest the fugitive from justice. Once arrested, Boston Police confirmed the suspect was to be extradited to Rhode Island. The arrest was made at 1459 VFW Parkway, according to a police report.

Two ID’d in MBTA Bus Bleach Attack

Transit police asked the public to help identify three women who allegedly attacked a bus passenger with bleach.

  MBTA police have identified two of the three suspects in an alleged June 9 bleach attack on a Route 28 bus. Police have warrants for the arrests of Lai Lawnnie Douglas (suspect No. 2 on the police blog’s original post), 22 and a juvenile, both of Boston, according to a Friday MBTA police blog post. Police posted photos of three women who were alleged to have attacked a passenger aboard a Route 28 bus in the early-morning hours of June 9 with a substance believed to be bleach. The Roxbury District Court warrants are for unarmed robbery, mayhem and indecent assault and battery.

Three Wanted in MBTA Bleach Attack

Attacks on MBTA buses have surged in 2013.

  Three women are wanted in connection with an attack on a male passenger aboard the Route 28 bus riding in the area of 517 Blue Hill Ave., in Roxbury around 2 a.m. on June 9, according to the MBTA Transit Police news blog. The man was doused in a substance believed to be bleach and robbed, according to the blog. Passengers helped the victim flush out his eyes following the attack. The man was the victim of an unarmed robbery, assault and battery and mayhem, the blog reports. The MBTA launched a "Don't Touch The Driver" marketing campaign in May in an attempt to stop attacks specifically targeted against bus drivers, which have surged to 50 in 2013, up from 33 at the same time in 2012, according to a WBUR report Monday. Correction: Roslindale Man Being Arraigned on Child Pornography Charges

A Roslindale man will be arraigned today on child pornography charges stemming from a warrant of his Sheffield Road home last night.

  Editor's note: The original press release identified the suspect being from West Roxbury, but he is from Roslindale. A Roslindale man is expected to be arraigned today on child pornography charges stemming from the execution of a search warrant at his Sheffield Road home by Boston Police last night. Joel Van Iderstine, 37, of Roslindale, is scheduled to be arraigned today at the West Roxbury District Court, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. More information on the case is expected after his arraignment.

Police Warn Against Ransom Extortion Scam in Boston

Victims are being called or texted claiming a family member or loved one is being held captive and will be harmed until a ransom is paid.

  Boston Police are warning residents about a varied phone extortion scam that involves victims being called and told that a loved one or family member is being held captive, or will be harmed, unless a ransom is paid.  According to BPDnews.com, the police have taken several reports from residents who have been targets of the scam. In several cases the suspect(s) say they captured their victim after an alleged motor vehicle accident that resulted in property damage that he or she cannot pay for. Family members have been able to contact the alleged kidnapped victim and confirm he or she has not been kidnapped, reported BPDnews.com. Good Samaritan Brings Lost Dog to Police Station

A small dog out by itself followed a West Roxbury woman and her dog, which led to the dog being taken control of by Boston Animal Control.

  A loose dog wandering West Roxbury was taken control of by Animal Control after a good Samaritan brought the canine to the Boston Police District E-5 Station. Yesterday morning (June 10) around 6:45 a.m., a woman walked into the police station with a small dog with black and white fur, and said she had been walking her dog, while the second dog started following them. The woman said she was concerned for the dog's safety and brought it to the police station, according to a Boston Police report. The dog had a collar with a dog license ID #, and a second tag.  The dog was taken control of by a police officer, who eventually turned the lost dog over to a Boston Animal Control officer. Home Depot Cashier Arrested for Not Scanning Merchandise

  A Home Depot employee in West Roxbury was allegedly caught on video not scanning more than $1,900 of merchandise in allowing two men to leave the store without paying for the majority of their purchase. On June 5, at 4:40 p.m., Warren David Williams, of 368 Bowdoin St., Dorchester, was arrested and charged with larceny of $200 and more, according to a Boston Police report.  Boston Police met with a loss prevention officer for Home Depot who had the suspect, an employee of the store, in an office. The loss prevention officer said he saw two males loading up a flat cart around the store with expensive merchandise, and then went to the suspect's register. The suspect only charged the two men $111.40 for $2,069.96 of merchandise, according …

West Roxbury Man Allegedly Admits to Hit-and-Run in Roslindale

  A hit-and-run suspect allegedly admitted to Boston Police from his home in West Roxbury that he didn't mean for the accident to happen in Roslindale. On June 6 around 11 a.m., Kenneth James Butler, of 30 Caspar St., West Roxbury, was arrested on a default warrant out of Dedham District Court for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and a speeding violation, according to a Boston Police report. The hit and run report was originally taken by the Massachusetts State Police, and they would file for the suspect's charges in regards to that incident, according to the police report. Ohrenberger, Beethoven Among Schools to Receive Suspicious Letters

Police have said there does not appear to be any credible physical threat in regards to the letters sent to Boston public schools across the city.

  Two West Roxbury schools, the Ohrenberger and Beethoven schools, were among the Boston public schools that received suspicious letters yesterday. As of Friday afternoon the Boston Police Department had collected 24 suspicious letters sent to Boston public schools, according to BPDnews.com. "There does not appear to be any reason why any particular schools received letters, and it is possible that others have yet to arrive. The letters all appear to be from the same sender and have the same postmarked Texas address. The investigation is ongoing," the BPDnews.com posting stated.
