Alexander Callahan, 25, of West Roxbury, was killed while serving a one-year sentence for assault in the Suffolk County House of Corrections at South Bay.
A Suffolk County Grand Jury on Tuesday indicted a South Boston man for allegedly murdering an inmate from West Roxbury. Leslie Jurczuk, 51, was indicted on second-degree murder charges for the Dec. 2, 2012 homicide of Alexander Callahan, 25, of West Roxbury, according to a press release from the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. Both men were serving sentences at the Suffolk County House of Corrections at South Bay, Jurczuk was serving a two-and-a-half-year term for domestic assault and battery, while Callahan was serving one year for assault. Alexander Callahan, 25, was killed on Sunday at the South Bay House of Correction in altercation with another inmate.
The Sunday death of a West Roxbury man who was a prisoner at the South Bay House of Correction is being investigated. "(Alexander Callahan) was from West Roxbury. His death is under investigation by Suffolk (County District Attorney) prosecutors and Boston Police. No charges have been brought as of (Dec. 5)," said Jake Wark, spokesperson for the Suffolk County District Attorney's office to Patch. A West Roxbury man was killed by another convict while in prison at the South Bay House of Correction. Alexander Callahan, 25, was involved on Sunday with an "altercation with another inmate” according to the Boston Herald. Callahan was serving time for cocaine possession from charges in June that Patch wrote about, as well as assault and battery. A Suffolk County District Attorney spokesman said there is an ongoing investigation. Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral has chosen not to comment, according to the Herald.
