Customer's iPhone Stolen While at Dunkin' Donuts in West Roxbury

The following article is based on a Boston Police report.

  A victim reported to Boston Police that her iPhone was stolen by an unknown person while at a Dunkin' Donuts in West Roxbury. The victim said the incident happened around 7:15 a.m. on March 30 at the Dunkin' Donuts at 1630 VFW Parkway, according to a Boston Police report. The victim said she placed the phone on the front counter while waiting for her order. She noticed her iPhone was missing when she got back to her daughter's home. The mother and daughter team said they returned to Dunkin' Donuts to look for the phone, and that an employee looked at the surveillance video and they witnessed a suspect take the victim's phone, according to a Boston Police report. Electronic devices - especially iPhones - are the most widely stolen items while using MBTA services.

  MBTA Transit Police wrote in a blog post Tuesday that iPhones are the most widely thieved item on the T. Police also offered tips on how to keep your stuff safe while riding public transportation (from the blog post): Police also pointed to a public service announcement video on how to keep your stuff safe produced by New York's Metro Transit Authority.

MBTA Police: Most Thefts Involve iPhones

Of the 43 robberies that took place on the MBTA system between Jan. 1 and Feb. 26, 36 involved the targeted thefts of electronic devices, specifically iPhones.

  Staring at one’s cell phone while riding public transportation has become commonplace in today’s world, but transit police say this small, seemingly innocent practice could be contributing to electronic device thefts. Between Jan. 1 and Feb. 26, there were 43 robberies on the MBTA system, according to a post on the MBTA Transit Police blog. Thirty-six of those 43 thefts – or 84 percent – involved electronic devices, most notably smart phones such as the widely-used Apple iPhone. “Unfortunately, thefts of smart phones/electronic devices (most notably Apple products) is a nationwide trend,” the blog post says. “This trend often referred to as ‘Apple Picking’ is for the most part a crime of opportunity.” The blog post provides tips on how …

'Apple Picking' Incidents at West Roxbury Education Complex

The following article is based on a Boston Police report.

  The term is "apple picking" - when an iPhone gets stolen, and phone thefts are happening so much it's raised crime statistics.  A Boston Police detective was investigating a separate robbery incident at the West Roxbury Education Complex on Feb. 2 around 11 a.m., when another robbery victim, a student, spoke with him about being "apple picked" the previous day.  The student said he was in a classroom speaking with a teacher, and left his iPhone on his desk, which was stolen, according to a Boston Police report. The victim said two female students were in the classroom and left immediately prior to the victim's meeting with the teacher ended. The victim told police that one of his friends also had a phone stolen from him that same day. …

High Time for Apple Pie

Fall family fun means apple picking and cooking up warm and comforting baked goodies like this favorite apple pie.

Fall and apple picking just seem to go hand-in-hand for families in New England. Now, if the weather would just stop being so humid, we could get on with our cool, crisp autumn days and bring on the good stuff like apple crisp, cider, donuts and leaf peeping. We try to go apple picking at least once a year with the kids. It’s still a novelty for them at this point – the hay rides, visiting the farm animals, getting a boost to pick just the right apple.
