The annual race starts at Billings Field at noon. Register today or tomorrow before the race.
The starter's pistol will sound for the 20th annual Corrib Classic 5K on Sunday at noon from Lagrange Street in front of Billings Field. Register here for $25, or $30 the day of the race at the Corrib Pub & Restaurant from 10 to 11:30 a.m. While this year's race will still be a fundraising effort, it will not be going to Parkway-area charities, like the more than $938,000 raised since the first race in 1994. "...this year’s race will also be one of remembrance of the tragedy of the Boston Marathon bombings. The Race start will be preceded by a Moment of Silence to honor the deceased and also to remember all of the innocent victims of this cowardly terrorist attack," said a letter from the Corrib Charitable Trust Board of Directors, on …

What would you like to see at the new Billings Playground?
The Billings Field Playground will be renovated, and Boston officials would like to hear your thoughts on how to improve the playground tonight. All are welcome to a public meeting at the West Roxbury Library tonight at 6 p.m. being hosted by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department. "We are looking for interested community members to help us in determining how the Billings Field playground will look and function in the future. This playground renovation provides us with a unique opportunity to create a space for all. At the first meeting, a synopsis of recent design process will be given, a site analysis will be presented and a list of desirable features will be developed," said a flyer from the Boston Parks and Recreation Department.

Players can still join the Parkway Pop Warner teams - start with visiting a practice at Billings Field.
Before putting on the pads, the Parkway Pop Warner football teams need to fulfill 10 hours of physical training. That doesn't mean the boys weren't out at Billings Field having a great time! Running, catching, tackling, blocking, all the while getting plenty of grass stains - the Parkway Pop Warner coaches drilled the boys at Billings Field. And it's not too late to sign-up for the teams. Boys and girls ages 7 to 15 from West Roxbury, Roslindale and Jamaica Plain can join the teams. Here's the league's website, or come down to Billings Field on a weekday night from 6-8 p.m. during practice time.

More than 100 young football players took to Billings Field to learn about tackling, blocking, and the option offense.
Last week, about 150 young athletes ages 6 to 14 endured the heat each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during a Parkway Pop Warner youth football camp at Billings Field. Volunteers and coaches from as far as Texas led campers in football and agility drills in the mornings, and the afternoons were for fun and games. The camp was sponsored by The Link: Boston, a new community focused church that is starting in February 2013. Ryne Deckard with The Link: Boston was positive about the week’s events, “For being the camp’s first year, it went off with very few glitches. It was awesome seeing the involvement of the volunteers and even more amazing seeing all of the kids having fun.” Campers, some of whom just starting playing football, had the …

Some riffraff graffitied the basketball court of Billings Field over Saturday night.
The basketball court of Billings Field was extensively graffitited during Saturday night, and Boston Police said some of the paint was still fresh as of 8 a.m. On the far basketball court (there are two basketball courts at Billings), there was white paint with "(Expletive) Westie" and "East Dedham" and "E D" in a cross-like symbol, according to a Boston Police report. Detectives took photos of the painted words, and recovered a spackle covered with white paint, a paintcan cover, and a white paint can in a trash can. Officers worked with Boston Fire Department's Engine 30 personnel, who came down to the court and removed much of the paint as possible, before a community event planned for Saturday morning. The BFD were able to remove much…

The Flaherty Pool in Roslindale will undergo a $5.6-million renovation, and the Draper Pool in West Roxbury will get a $3.75-million upgrade, with the projects starting early 2013.
West Roxbury's Draper Pool is slated to get a $3.75-million upgrade early next year. Draper's facelift is just one of several Parkway spots among the 336 projects in Boston's five-year capital plan. Mayor Thomas Menino presented his proposed five-year $1.8-billion capital plan today at Adams Park in nearby Roslindale. “Adams Park is a great example of how our capital plan works to bring people together. With this plan, every resident is within a 10-minute walk to the nearest project,” said Menino. “Just as important as investing in buildings is investing in programs and places where neighbors can come together to have fun and connect with each other. I’m excited that this capital plan makes play a priority.” "Play" is certainly in Boston…
