Due to continued cleanup up of the fifth worst storm to hit Boston, public schools are closed on Monday, February 11, 2013.

Boston Public Schools will be closed on Monday, February 11, 2013, due to continued cleanup of one of the worst storms to hit Beantown. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino tweeted on Sunday: "Boston Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 11. #bosnow" The snow emergency parking ban remains in effect. West Roxbury Digs Out of Lots of Snow

The 24-hour Mayor’s Hotline staff at 617-635-4500 are on hand to field any questions about the storm, to request plowing, blocked public ways or other storm-related issues.

Luckily, it looks like West Roxbury got hit with more than 20 inches of snow, but it does not appear that many folks lost power. Just more than 500 NSTAR customers in Boston were without power at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Nearby the hardest hit town appears to be neighboring Dedham, with about 3 percent of NSTAR customers without power as of Saturday afternoon. The city appears to be one of the lighter-hit areas in the electric company's coverage area. Communities along the coast and out on the Cape were experiencing much higher rates of power outages, with more than 90 percent of NSTAR customers out in towns such as Scituate, Duxbury, Marshfield and Plymouth. The 24-hour Mayor’s Hotline staff at 617-635-4500 are on hand to field …

Boston Snow Emergency Parking Ban Remains in Effect

The city's parking ban will remain in effect until Public Works crews can adequately clear the roadways.

Boston's parking ban on major roads throughout the city will remain in effect, the mayor announced on Saturday afternoon.  “We’re halfway there,” Mayor Menino said. “Our crews have been out there, non-stop, and our residents have listened to the early warnings to stay home and stay off the roads. We’re not out of the woods yet. Right now, it’s critical that residents continue to work with us and let the crews have full access to the streets.” You can see the streets that are banned from parking in the West Roxbury neighborhood here.  The city said public works crews are out in full force, but it will take significant time, even after the snow stops this afternoon, to clear every roadway. The city also said it is vital that residents …

Neighbors Turn to Online Forum for Shoveling Help in West Roxbury

Boston residents who have a hard time shoveling can post their address on a forum provided by Neighbors for Neighbors.

If you need help digging out after the blizzard, a local organization is offering their services. Neighbors for Neighbors has activated its SnowCrew program where those in need can post their address to the company’s online forum to request free shoveling service. Several residents have posted that they need help in West Roxbury, specifically at 40 Rockingham Ave., a senior living center, and surrounding areas. The initiative, powered by SeeClickFix.com, makes it possible for those in need and those who look after them to request shoveling assistance and have notifications sent to those nearby and those who follow #snowcrew on twitter to dig them out. This free service has proven beneficial in pilots in 2010 and 2011 and is available to …

The transit shutdown will continue indefinitely.

The now two-day blizzard that has crushed Boston has caused the MBTA to stay shut down through Saturday. “Due to the impacts of a severe winter storm, MBTA service will remain suspended on all  modes Saturday, February 9, 2013,” says a post on MBTA.com.
