10 Boston Hot Spots for Crime

These 10 Boston areas have been identified for intense Boston Police enforcement, quality of life and services focus.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, along with Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, school and city personnel, announced strategies to have a safe summer in the city. Boston Police also identified 10 hot spots for intense enforcement, quality of life and services focus:

Boston's New Public Safety Strategies for Summer

Boston Police will increase walking and bicycle beats during June, July and August, primarily in high-crime areas.

  Expect to see more Boston police in the neighborhoods this summer as part of the city's summer public safety plan. Increasing cop bike and walking beats is just one of many ways the city plans to ensure a safe summer. Using technology, increasing engagement with the community and offering opportunities to youths were some of the main points highlighted by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino on Thursday, in a press conference with city police, school and human services personnel. Along with increasing bike and walk beats, Boston Police’s current class of recruits will be deployed to target heavy crime areas after graduating in July. West Roxbury Man Arrested on Warrant for Selling Pills

  A West Roxbury man was arrested on a warrant for selling prescription pills by Boston Police during a citywide active warrant operation. On May 17, around 9:15 a.m., Colby A. Dancy-Chandler, of 4827 Washington St., West Roxbury, was arrested on an active straight warrant issued from West Roxbury District Court on May 15, 2013, for distributon of a class B drug, according to a Boston Police report. Dancy-Chandler's arrest was one of severals involved in another Operation: P.A.W.S. (Proactive Warrant Service), made across the city. iPhone Stolen from Ohrenberger Community Center Employee

  An employee of the Ohrenberger Community Center reported to Boston Police that her iPhone was stolen from her desk while she went to the ladies room. The victim said the incident happened around 3 p.m. on May 18, according to a Boston Police report.

West Roxbury Man Arrested for Yelling 'White Power!' While Friend Charged with OUI

Boston Police arrested a West Roxbury man for being a disorderly person in Roslindale for allegedly yelling a racially-charged phrase, and arrested his associate for allegedly driving under the influence. On May 19 around 1:10 a.m., Nikolaos P. Kalemkerides, of 705 West Roxbury Parkway, West Roxbury, was arrested and charged with being a disorderly person, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. Brandon T. Bellevue Street Home Robbed of Electronics, Furs, Hockey Bag and More

  A Bellevue Street home in West Roxbury was broken into and robbed of clothes, and a television, which was ripped from a wall mount. The victim reported to Boston Police that he came home at night on May 15 and saw his front door not fully closed, according to a Boston Police report. Only a dogwalker was supposed to be in the home during the day. The victim reported clothing including five suits, five pairs of pants, five blazers, 20 dress shirts, an X-Box with five games, Bose headphones and receiver console, a 26-inch Samsung flatscreen television, a Panasonic camcorder, a Microsoft tv system, and an Easton hockey bag, were all stolen. Dog Shot by BB Gun on Lagrange Street in West Roxbury

  A dog that got loose from its Potomac Street home was quickly found after letting out a yelp from being shot by a BB gun in a neighbor's West Roxbury home. The owner of the dog reported the incident that occurred on May 13, after an 8-year-old Wheaten terrier got loose from the yard at 76 Potomac St., according to a Boston Police report. The dog was out for not more than five minutes when a friend who was doing work on the home, where the dog got out from, went to look for the dog.  While looking for the dog, the witness heard the dog yelp from 525 Lagrange St., and then the dog came limping from behind the home at that address. A Safe & Cigarettes Stolen in Gas Station Robbery in West Roxbury

  A brash thief stole a safe with several hundred dollars during an overnight robbery of a West Roxbury gas station. Around 1:09 a.m., on May 10, Boston Police responded to the One Energy gas station at 1465 VFW Parkway. The glass portion of the door to the gas station was smashed in multiple pieces on the floor, according to a Boston Police report. Police were able to speak with a witness of the crime, who saw a suspect banging on the door of the gas station, and make off with a heavy box. The heavy box was the overnight safe containing $644 in cash, according to a gas station employee. Also, two cartons of cigarettes were also missing. Lagrange Street Home Broken Into, 'Tiffany' Jewelry Stolen

  A West Roxbury home on Lagrange Street was broken into, and "Tiffany" jewelry was stolen -- but a possible clue may have been left behind. The homeowner of 141 Lagrange St., told Boston Police his home was broken into on May 7 while he and his wife were out during different time periods, according to a Boston Police report.  The victim said two Tiffany brand rings valued at $250 each, a necklace valued at $150, and an Android cell phone, were all missing from the home. Police noted that the rear basement door had been forced open, and the lock was damaged.  The victims said the drawers upstairs were rifled through, and that a black glove was left on the bureau, which did not belong to the victims, according to a Boston Police report.

Pregnant Woman Breaks Up Vicious Dog Attack at Allandale Woods

A 6-month pregnant Roslindale woman got in the middle of an unleashed dog attacking her husband and own dog at Allandale Woods. The victim reported the incident to police and said he, his wife, and leashed dog were walking in the woods on the morning of May 6, when an unleashed rottweiler attached his dog, according to a Boston Police report. The victim was bitten on his left hand, wrist, and right forearm, and went to Faulkner Hospital for treatment. The owner of the unleashed dog allegedly told the victim that the dog had all his shots. The owned of the unleashed dog told the victim that his dog wasn't leashed because it's rare to see people in Allandale Woods.
