Boston Budget Hearings Rolling Along

No budget hearings will take place the week of Memorial Day.

  Boston's budget hearings for Mayor Thomas Menino's last proposed budget—a $2.6 billion operating budget, are rolling along. "We’re currently in hearings, and 18 of 26 departmental hearings have already occurred," said Emilee Ellison, spokesperson for the mayor. "There are no hearings scheduled for next week due to the [Memorial Day] holiday. Hearings are scheduled to end the second week of June. And we’re moving toward a vote as usual." A new updated budget will be submitted by the Menino administration in about three weeks, and the Boston City Council will vote on the last Wednesday in June on the resubmitted budget. Video: Menino Delivers Final Budget Proposal with Laughs

Menino says proposed $2.6 billion Fiscal Year '14 budget is "prudent."

  Boston Mayor Thomas Menino presented his last fiscal year budget - of $2.6 billion - with laughs, joking about the mayoral race with candidates and potential candidates in the room. Before getting to the details, a mock movie was played to a full room that included the Boston City Council, department heads, Superintendent Carol Johnson, as well as Police Commissioner Ed Davis. Laughs filled the Eagle Room at City Hall, for the comedic line that kept going, "From the producer of the Fiscal Year 1994 Budget, and the Fiscal Year 1995 Budget..." all the way up to Fiscal Year 2014 - "...coming July 1."   The Boston City Council unanimously passed Mayor Thomas Menino's Fiscal Year 2013 operating budget of $2.5 billion at Wednesday's regular council meeting. There is $215 million in new FY 2013 project authorizations throughout the neighborhoods - so let's see what Menino and some of the councilors believe are the highlights to the FY '03 budget, which begins on July 1, 2012.  Overall, the city's budget increased 3 percent over last year, coming in at $2.5 billion for fiscal 2013. Menino: Draper Pool Getting $3.75 Million Upgrade in 2013

The Flaherty Pool in Roslindale will undergo a $5.6-million renovation, and the Draper Pool in West Roxbury will get a $3.75-million upgrade, with the projects starting early 2013.

  West Roxbury's Draper Pool is slated to get a $3.75-million upgrade early next year. Draper's facelift is just one of several Parkway spots among the 336 projects in Boston's five-year capital plan. Mayor Thomas Menino presented his proposed five-year $1.8-billion capital plan today at Adams Park in nearby Roslindale. “Adams Park is a great example of how our capital plan works to bring people together. Mayor Menino Submits $2.4-Billion 2013 Budget to City Council

Menino said budget prioritizes community engagement, while investing in people, as well as infrastructure.

  Today Boston Mayor Thomas Menino proposed a $2.4 billion budget for fiscal year 2013. The Boston City Council is now tasked with examining the budget, and passing a budget by June 30. Menino's proposed budget includes a five-year $1.8 billion capital plan, including $217 million for new projects in fiscal year 2013, which begins July 1, 2012.
