ESPNBoston.com has Catholic Memorial ranked just out of the Top 25 in the state for the upcoming 2012 season.
The varsity football Knights of Catholic Memorial finished 7-2 last season. But they lost some very high profile players, with two headed to Ohio State. This year's team still has some good players, who you'll be hearing about soon. But check out a couple of photos of a recent practice. ESPNBoston.com lists CM just outside of the Top 25 in its preseason MIAA ranking.

Four Catholic Memorial football standouts made it official Wednesday, with A.J. Doyle signing on with UMass, and Donovan Henry choosing to run track at Northeastern.
It's official. After months (and years) of speculation and build-up, Armani Reeves and Camren Williams will be shipping up to Columbus, Ohio next fall to play for Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Both Reeves and Williams signed their National Letters of Intent during a press conference Thursday afternoon at the Catholic Memorial School. "It’s definitely special," Reeves said. "I didn’t know if I was going to make it this far in football and it’s just been a blessing to go through all of this and go through the whole football experience with recruiting along with Cam and this has been really great. I can’t wait to start playing football in college." Reeves, a defensive back, and Williams, a linebacker, have been among the most …

Williams to attend Ohio State, Reeves still undecided, Doyle headed to UMass, and Henry is headed to BC.
Next Wednesday, a quartet of Catholic Memorial football stand-outs will participate in a signing day, according to CM Director of Communications Joseph McGonegal. As of Wednesday, cornerback Armani Reeves was still undecided as to which Division I school he would attend. Linebacker Camren Williams tweeted last week that he would be attending Ohio State next Fall. Both players were verbally committed to Penn State before allegations of sexual abuse arose involving former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. The scandal led to the firing of head coach Joe Paterno, who passed away over the weekend. According to the Detroit Free Press, Reeves could be eyeing Michigan, but Penn State is still an option. He is also considering joining …

Knights defeat St. John's Prep 26-7.
The Catholic Memorial Knights won their fifth straight game and advanced to 2-0 in the Catholic Conference with a 26-7 victory against St. John's Prep at home last night. The Knights (5-1, 1-0) had not defeated Prep since a hard fought 2008 win, and have won two conference games for the first time since that season. CM head coach Alex Campea, however, indicated the team had little time for reflection. "It feels good, it's wonderful, I'm happy for these guys," said Campea. "...It was a good win for us especially in the conference. But you know what? We move on to the next game." That attitude is a healthy, if not expected, one to hear coming from a coach after an impressive victory. The fact, however, is just that: this was an impressive …

Knights contest against Trumbull called off after lights malfunctioned in the second quarter.
For nearly 16 minutes of football on Friday night, the Catholic Memorial football team must have thought to themselves, This is more like it. With 6:25 remaining in the second quarter, the Knights – just one week removed from a humbling 24-0 loss to Marshfield in their season opener – held a commanding 14-0 lead against Connecticut powerhouse Trumbull High School. CM quarterback AJ Doyle and the Knights’ offense controlled the pace of the game, and the Knights’ defense was coming up with big play after big play. Then the lights went out. Literally. “It’s just crazy,” said CM head coach Alex Campea. “I’ve been coaching football for over 30 years and I’ve never been in a game where the lights just went out.” That’s just what happened, though…

Catholic Memorial's season gets off to a rough start on the road.
The following high school football games took place Friday, September 9. Marshfield 24, Catholic Memorial 0 The Knights' vaunted offensive lineup was kept off the board in their opening game, which Marshfield hosted. Marshfield does not represent a Catholic Conference opponent for CM, so the loss hardly dooms the the Knights, whose four captains are all headed to Division 1 college programs. Still, it's a stunner given the expectations surrounding CM this season. The Knights will try to pick themselves up when they play their first home game next Friday night, hosting Connecticut powerhouse Trumbull. Boston Latin School 7, North Quincy 6 The Wolfpack got on the board in the first half and held on for dear life. It's a welcome first result…
