Composting Tips from a West Roxbury Expert

West Roxbury resident Lisa Becker, a Mass Hort Master Gardener, led a discussion on Composting 101 on July 7.

West Roxbury resident Lisa Becker, a Mass Hort Master Gardener, who works for Mass Audubon, led a discussion on Composting 101 on July 7, sponsored by West Roxbury Saves Energy.  Becker provided West Roxbury Patch with several tips on how she composts: Who does the work in a compost pile? Becker uses her compost bins to make mulch, not compost. She fills two wire bins with chopped up leaves in the fall and in the spring and summer use the leaves (now dark and crumbly) as a covering for the bare soil around my plants; cuts down on water, feeds the soil, looks just as nice as bark mulch and it's FREE! Come to the West Roxbury Library in September 15th to hear more about composting. Also check out the Mass DEP's website page about composting.
