CM Hoops Beats Barnstable in First Playoff Game

Never underestimate the adrenaline produced by an energetic home crowd. Add 20 turnovers to the mix and a debilitating first five minutes of the third quarter, and the Old Colony League champion Red Raiders soon found themselves on the back end of a rout as the host Catholic Memorial Knights ran away with last night's MIAA Division 1 South Sectional first-round affair, 81-63. CM's Powers Reaches 1,000 Career Points and Counting...

Powers becomes the seventh player in the Knights basketball history to score 1,000 career points.

  Catholic Memorial senior Dan Powers reached a very impressive benchmark after scoring his 1000th career point on the hardwood for the Knights. Powers accomplished his feat on Saturday during the Knights' 75-55 victory against the Boston Latin School. Powers has led the CM offense for the past three seasons, and is the seventh player in school history to hit the 1000-point plateau. He did it in just more than 50 games, while averaging about 20 points per game. Powers start playing basketball on travel leaguesm and in the youth basketball program in Westwood, where his father, David, served as an assistant coach.
