The Canton-based company is lobbying the White House to changes its definition of full-time work from 30 hours a week to 40 or more per week, according to reports.
Canton-based Dunkin' Brands has joined the fight against Obamacare. The coffee and baked goods company is working to overturn a major provision of Obamacare, according to a Newsmax.com report this week. Specifically, Dunkin' is lobbying the White House to change its definition of full-time work from at least 30 hours a week to 40 or more per week, CEO Nigel Travis told the Financial Times, according to The Huffington Post. The change would leave Dunkin', as well as other companies, with fewer workers to insure under the health care reform law, which requires large employers to provide health coverage to all full-time workers and their dependents. Those companies who fail to provide coverage could face a penalty of $2,000 per worker. The…

West Roxbury YMCA Teens, staff and family members received free tickets courtesy of Dunkin' Donuts.
I can still hear the roar of the crowd as Lebron James fouled out of the game in the last seconds of overtime. At last night's Game 4 of the Celtics versus the Heat playoff series, the West Roxbury YMCA Teens erupted in excitement. On Friday, the West Roxbury YMCA received tickets from Dunkin' Donuts to sit in the Kid Zone. We were able to invite eight teenagers and 13 family members (some who had never been to a Celtics game). The teens and I hopped aboard our Y van and headed to the Garden. We got in and headed for our seats (which were awesome), we sat down and the game started. The teens and families were joining in with the crowd for every good and “bad” call, screaming "De-fense!” and waving our playoff Celtic towels around. As the…

McDonald's came before the West Roxbury Neighborhood Council requesting to extend operating hours, while unintentionally exposing neighboring businesses allegedly staying open beyond the city's allowed hours.
Two local food franchisees came before the West Roxbury Neighborhood Council on Tuesday. McDonalds proposed to extend their operating hours, while unknowingly exposing an alleged malpractice within the neighboring area businesses. Separately, Subway restaurant talked about opening on Centre Street in the coming months. McDonald's, located on 1650 VFW Parkway, sought to extend their operating hours by requesting to open one hour earlier and closing an hour later. Owner Bob King shared his desire to remodel the establishment, as well as to be up to par with the neighboring businesses. “We’d like to recoup some of the expenses for remodeling by extending our hours and have parity with the like businesses that surround us,” said King. …

Here's some good news for coffee and Munchkin lovers - Dunkin Donuts announced that it will be doubling its locations in the United States during the next 20 years. Man's jacket went missing at Dunkin' Donuts on the VFW Parkway, and was returned the following day.
A good Samaritan returned a jacket to a Dunkin' Donuts after mistakenly taking it from the business one day earlier in West Roxbury. On Dec. 28, a man walked into District E-5 and told officers that his gray pea coat jacket, containing his car and house keys went missing when he approached the counter. He noticed three men departed in the parking lot at the same time. The good Samaritan returned the coat the following day after his friend noticed that the coat wasn't his. Police took possession of the coat and returned it to the owner, and there were no items missing from the jacket.
