Warren is sponsoring three bills that would support gun control reform, a gun buyer background check, and making gun trafficking a federal crime.
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Senator Elizabeth Warren discussed gun violence prevention on Friday, championing reforms including a criminal background check on anyone buying a gun in the country. "Now is the time to turn words into actions, to line up supporters and to mobilize all Americans behind common sense gun reform," Menino said after walking to the podium with a cane at the Parkman House. Menino joked with Warren, calling her the "senior" senator of Massachusetts, then turned serious about three major points key to gun violence prevention: Warren said she's sponsored three bills being unveiled next week that support those three points. Senator Charles Schumer, D-NY, is filing the Fix Gun Checks Act to close the gap in current …

In an interview with Fox 25 news after her Thursday morning swearing-in ceremony, Warren told reporters she'd "work her tail off" in Washington.
Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, who was sworn in to office on Thursday, told reporters she plans to "work her tail off" and will work with "anyone who will fight for America's families" in Washington D.C. "I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as your Senator, and I'll never stop fighting for you," she said via Twitter on Thursday morning after she sworn in by Vice President Joe Biden in Washington D.C. Warren told reporters she was "delighted" by her committee assignments. "I'm going to be on the Banking Committee which is something I really wanted to do," Warren told Fox25, "And I'm going to be on the HELP Committee which means we deal with health, education, labor, pensions…really the economics of working families." …

Governor Deval Patrick won't run again, and Lt. Gov. Tim Murray wants the job. So do Treasurer Steve Grossman and 2010 Republican candidate Charlie Baker. Who do you think should run for governor?
Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray could hold out any longer. On Thursday, he told the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce he'd like to be governor, according to WBUR. Mind you, he didn't say he would run, just that he wants to be governor. With the election two years away, starting an official campaign now would be a bit premature. But Murray's not alone. Governor Deval Patrick has said he will not run in 2014, leaving the door open for Murray and a host of other suitors to the office. State treasurer Steve Grossman and 2010 Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker have also expressed interest in a run in 2014. And it wasn't so long ago that Scott Brown was greeted with shouts of "Governor!" during is concession speech. Who do you …

U.S. Senator Scott Brown will leave office in January. What should he do next?
U.S. Senator Scott Brown, a Republican, was defeated Tuesday by first time candidate Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat. Warren will take office as the state's junior senator in January. She'll replace Brown, who was elected in a special election in January 2010 when he defeated Democrat Martha Coakley. In his concession speech on Tuesday night, Brown told his supporters that "defeat is only temporary." As soon as the race was called, analysts began suggesting Brown may run for Massachusetts governor in 2014 or would seek the state's other U.S. Senate seat if Senator John Kerry is named Secretary of State under President Barack Obama in his second term. What should Brown do next? Tell us in the comments.

Democrat Elizabeth Warren beat incumbent candidate Scott Brown in the Massachusetts U.S. Senate race.
Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren has beaten incumbent Republican candidate Scott Brown for a seat on the U.S. Senate, according to the Associated Press. Warren is won by a margin of eight percentage points, 54 percent to 46 percent, making her the first female senator elected in Massachusetts. An estatic Warren addressed a crowd of hundreds of excited supporters at the Copley Fairmont Plaza hotel in Boston on Tuesday night. "We did what everyone thought was impossible," she said. "We taught a scrappy, first-time candidate how to win." "You took on the powerful Wall Street banks and let them know that you want a Senator out there fighting for the middle class all of the time," she said. "And despite the odds, you elected the first …
Elizabeth Warren supporters dominated the Holy Name parking lot before and after Scott Brown's visit.
While Republican US Senator Scott Brown's visit to West Roxbury drew attention, his opponent's campaign workers held their ground at the Holy Name School in West Roxbury. Brown took hold of the Holy Name Rotary mid-morning, before heading off to his next campaign stop. Above Brown from the school's parking lot, union worker Neal Kelleher of Dedham stood by in support of Warren. "I believe Liz Warren is the voice for working class America." Several of Kelleher's colleagues agreed with him. "I've never seen any election this big," said Steve Slyne, former owner of Slyne's Deli. "This is unbelievable to have it be this close (with Brown and Warren)." Slyne was holding a sign to "Vote No on Question 2" to not allow physician-assisted …

Republican US. Sen. Scott Brown handed out some bake sale items, greeted supporters, and waved to drivers through the Holy Name Rotary on Tuesday mid-morning.
Republican US Senator Scott Brown's campaign bus pulled into the Holy Name Rotary to the chants of supporters mid Tuesday morning. As Brown and his wife, Gail Huff, made their way onto one of the traffic islands in the Rotary, Elizabeth Warren supporters chanted against Brown from the Holy Name School's parking lot. "Go Scott! Go!" chanted Brown's supporters, as did Elizabeth Warren supporters, as well as "No Scott! No!" from the Warren crowd. "People over party!" was a very loud cheer from the more than 30 Brown supporters, which after a while Brown joked, "All right, all right. They get it." Brown waved to drivers as they passed through the Holy Name Rotary. He was greeted by several St. Theresa's School teachers, like Coley Ferraro …

Democratic US Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren roused the crowd with an invigorating speech in the Hastings Street lot on Monday night.
Democratic US Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren made her last election eve stop a memorable one at the Truman Rally in West Roxbury on Monday night. After numerous candidates gave quick stump speeches, Ed Kelly, president of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, introduced Warren from a stage on Hastings Street. "It's about whose side are you on?" asked Warren to the pro-Warren crowd evidenced by her campaign signs easily outnumbering any other candidates. Republican US Sen. Scott Brown did not attend the nonpartisan event. And Warren took it to her opponent, "Too often Scott Brown stands with millionaires and billionaires... he doesn't stand for working families. I want to go to Washington to fight for families every day." …

This is really shocking: 1221 people have died of gun violence since the Newtown massacre on Dec 14. On gun appreciation day alone, 26 people died of gun violence. The Bushmaster AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, which was the weapon of choice in Newtown CT, Aurora CO and last weekend in Albuquerque NM, is a modified M-16 which US infantry carry. The weapon is designed to kill. The factors that make it…   more ›
