Medicare database shows how hospitals across Boston—and the nation—compare for care. Hospitals, meanwhile, criticized the data as inaccurate.
Which Boston emergency room is the most efficient? It depends on what you mean, according to data released by the Center for Medicare & Medicid Services. The closest hospital in the Parkway area is the Faulkner Hospital, which compared well to the national and state averages. The average time in ER before going home at Faulkner Hospital was 141 minutes, while the national average was 140 minutes, and statewide it was 152 minutes. The average time in at the Faulkner Hospital's ER before inpatient admission was 230 minutes, well below the national average of 277 minutes and the state average of 311 minutes. A doctor at Faulkner Hospital lost his license after the discovery of an affair with a patient.
The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine voted to revoke the medical license of a doctor at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital according to WCVB, Channel 5 News. Gary R. Brockman’s license was revoked after it was discovered that he had allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a patient. The 1984 graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine had been licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts since 1988. Brockman has reportedly been given until December 11 to close down his practice at Faulkner Hospital.

The 100-year-old hospital changed its name as of Monday.
Faulkner Hospital on Monday changed its name to Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. The non-profit hospital in Jamaica Plain has for 15 years had a partnership with Brigham and Women's, according to a press release about the name change. Dr. Michael Gustafson, chief operating officer of the newly-renamed hospital, said in a press statement that the change reflects increasing integration and a "commitment to offer a seamless campus to our patients and to redesign care for maximum efficiency and the best possible outcomes." The hospital is a 150-bed non-profit, community teaching hospital. It was founded in 1900. Faulkner Hospital's Couples Project for Women helps women struggling with drug abuse problems and their male partners.
Faulkner Hospital recently began offering a new program to help women struggling with drug abuse problems and their male partners. The Couples Project for Women is a study conducted by researchers at the hospital and Harvard Medical School to examine whether adding couples counseling to individual counseling improves treatment outcomes for women abusing drugs. Women seeking help for a drug abuse problem may be eligible for the program if they live with a husband or male partner. You do not need to live in the Parkway area to participate. All women taking part in the study will receive free individual counseling, and half of the participants will also receive free couples counseling.
