Superintendent Promises 'Sweeping Changes' to BPS Transportation

BPS says "new procedures will ensure a higher level of service for BPS students and families at the beginning of the new school year."

  Bus transportation has long been an issue in Boston, especially earlier this school year when buses were at a 65% rate of being ontime to schools. With that in mind, Boston Public Schools Superintendent Carol Johnson today outlined changes to the BPS transportation department she said "will ensure on-time performance and improved communication with families for the beginning of the next school year." BPS is making several changes to improve customer service, too, including allowing parents to identify alternate afternoon drop off locations in advance so most stops can be routed before the school year begins, rather than several weeks after the school year begins. Mr. Ertischek, The biggest problem is that they purchased routing and scheduling software (Versatrans) that has never had a successful large city implementation and passed on a company that is in 81 of the top 100 largest school districts in the country. Versatrans created the routes for Boston not First Student.. Another firm has offered to come in and optimize their routes for free but BPS does…   more ›
