The board that advises the governor on his or her appointments has been a source of embarrassment, the Boston Globe writes in an editorial, and the board has little function.
A few days after the primary selected the candidates who will face off for the Governor's Council, the Boston Globe ran an editorial calling for the end of the board that advises the governor on selections for judgeships, parole board and other posts. The council predates the United States, having been set up by King Charles I of England. The editorial suggests that the Governor's Council no longer serves a necessary purpose and has had a negative effect, "... thanks to a few councilors whose clownish antics have been an embarrassment to the state..." The Globe also maintains that the council process has deterred qualified candidates from seeking to become a judge, clerk or another appointed seat. Members of the Council would maintain that…

In the coming months, Jubinville plans to speak at local gatherings and hopes to raise support by introducing himself to many area residents, he said. "We're going to get working right away," Jubinville said. "It feels good that the voters have chosen me and think I'm the best candidate." Governor's Council is one of the state's oldest elected boards which acts to appoint state officials including judges and parole …
Governor's Council District 2 candidates Brian Clinton and Patrick McCabe greeted voters outside of the Holy Name School polling site.
How slow of a State Primary Election Day is it in West Roxbury? The metal railing in the Holy Name School parking lot, normally packed with candidate signs - still had plenty of room for signs to be affixed. Without many contested local races, the Governor's Council District 2 Democratic Primary had the most action surrounding it, with three candidates centralizing their city operations in West Roxbury. "I'm excited. I've worked hard," said Brian Clinton, outside of Holy Name, one of the four Democratic candidates for District 2. Clinton, of Hyde Park, said he started his day at the Holy Name School at 7 a.m. He added that he was concentrating his efforts in West Roxbury and Franklin (part of the council district). Clinton's boss, …
