Parkway In Motion Easter Egg Hunt at Hynes Field on Saturday

The first Parkway In Motion Easter Egg Hunt will take place at Hynes Field in West Roxbury starting at 10 a.m.

The first annual Parkway In Motion Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at Hynes Playground. "Parkway In Motion has fundraisers to promote children events. Kids show up and get t-shirts, food, and all fundraising goes directly to the youth of West Roxbury and Roslindale," said Ryan Mason, founder of Parkway In Motion.  The egg hunt is free for kids 6 and younger, and Mason estimated 1,000 eggs will be hidden throughout Hynes for the kids to find. Remember to bring your own basket or bag to put eggs in. Older children can join in the egg toss and bunny hop races, and facepainting and arts and crafts will be available for all ages. "Parkway In Motion is geared towards West Roxbury and Roslindale, but this event is …

An Animal Incident at Hynes Playground that Was More of a Human Incident

A not-so-vicious dog, barbed words and a reminder from Boston Police that parks close at dusk.

Boston Police were called to Hynes Playground for a radio call of a vicious dog that ended up being not-so-vicious. Upon arrival on Nov. 25 around 7:56 p.m., officers spoke with a married couple who said they were walking in the park when a dog ran at them and "attacked" them. But the duo denied injury, and stated the dog never bit them or made contact, according to a Boston Police report. The husband said that when he spoke to the owner of the dog, the canine's owner called the man a "bastard." The man said he wanted to file a complaint with Boston Police. An officer spoke with the dog's owner who said his shepherd/hound mix puppy was on a leash but pulled away from him when it got excited to see another dog. He said his puppy did run …

Public Places to Cool Off in the Parkway Area & Boston

Not everything is open yet for the season, but here's where you can head to cool off.

It's hot out and there are several places in the Parkway area you can cool off. Start with the Draper Pool.  Or try the Ohrenberger or Roche family community centers. And one of the best places to cool off for the kids (and parents) is at the Hynes Playground spray tot lot.  The city's outdoor pools - which include the Clougherty Pool in Charlestown and Mirabella Pool in the North End - are scheduled to open today, when temperatures are expected to be around 75. However, all the indoor pools are up and running, a city spokesman said. The cooling centers are also open, and have the air conditioning on, so residents can cool off at the community centers.  Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the South End are without designated pools or cooling …

Parents took cover in the shade, or pushed kids on swings - while some kids danced through the water feature.

Little tykes danced through the water spray feature at Hynes Playground as their parents took cover in the shade. Other parents pushed kids on swings, trying to keep both themselves and their children cool during Thursday's heatwave.  "The kids love it here," said Nancy Laste, of her 2-year-old twins, Julia and Theodore Briggs. While Laste pushed her children on the swings after playing in the water, Meg Ladd had a simple reason for coming to the playground with her son, William. "It's hot."

Some Local Options on Staying Cool During Heat Wave

Cooling centers and pools to stay open until 9 p.m. Call the Mayor's 24-hour hotline at 617-635-4500 for questions about heat-related City services.

Temperatures are expected to top 90 degrees today and the next several days causing Mayor Thomas Menino to issue a heat advisory. City officials are asking residents to take precautions to stay safe and healthy during this hot and potentially dangerous weather.  The City’s cooling centers and pools will operate with extended hours, until 9 p.m., for residents who want to cool off. In West Roxbury that includes the Roche Family and Ohrenberger community centers, and the Draper Pool. The Boston Parks Department also operates 50 water spray features at parks throughout the City, including at the Hynes Playground. “The hot weather has now become steamy weather as higher temperatures and humidity arrive this week,” said Menino. “In these …
