After nearly closing for good, the Irish Social Club of Boston rose from the ashes, and is now a successful club with a growing membership hosting regular events.
The Irish Social Club of Boston now has a permanent liquor license, essentially restoring the club to its legal capabilites as it was before April 2011's abrupt and brief closing of the club. "Wanted to let you know that Mary Maloney and Kathie Sullivan just picked up the permanent liquor license for the Irish Social Club a few minutes ago in Boston City Hall," wrote Mary Mulvey Jacobson, the club's corresponding secretary. "It is a 7-day all alcoholic license with a 1 a.m. closing, all out by 1:30 am. This license, coupled with the recently received entertainment license completes our work on restoring the licenses. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this happen. The officers and members of the Irish Social Club extend sincere …

Wicked Sharp Ski & Sports led the drive, with the St. Theresa's community and Irish Social Club pitching in to aid Hurricane Sandy victims.
Boxes and bags of Luvs, Pampers, bottles of water, sweaters, sweatshirts, hats and more were piled on tables at the Irish Social Club on Monday afternoon. Volunteers like West Roxbury's Thomas Bergeron brought in bag after bag of donations raised by the Wicked Sharp Ski & Sports Hurricane Sandy Relief Drive in the last week. Said Bergeron (who heard about volunteering through a West Roxbury Patch tweet about volunteers being needed) spoke about why he came down to help. "We definitely wanted to donate our time because we didn't get hit hard, but we know people who did." Bergeron added he has family in Long Island, NY, who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. West Roxbury's Jocelyn Bourgault (who also heard about volunteers being needed …

The owners of Wicked Sharp Ski & Sports are continuing their ways of helping others by running a relief drive to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey. "We have decided to do a relief drive for New Jersey and New York residents affected by Hurricane Sandy. We will have Wicked Sharp as the drop off point," said JP Bedard of Wicked Sharp. Wicked Sharp has been in touch …

The Club now needs to get approval from the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission and then the license will be restored.
There appears to be one last hurdle for the Irish Social Club of Boston to get back their full all-alcohol license restored after Boston's Licensing Board approved the license on Wednesday. The last hurdle is for the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission to approve the license, which is expected to take anywhere from six to 13 weeks. The club has been using one night special licenses for all its events after a member mistakenly gave back the extremely valuable all alcohol license for the club. The club was going to close last year, but was saved by the community, and has enjoyed a revitalization as a spot for local events.
