State fish and game officials kicked off spring by tossing 1,250 trout into Jamaica Pond Thursday. Where do you go fishing in the Parkway area?
Gov. Deval Patrick alongside state wildlife officials and JFK Elementary School students helped stock Jamaica Pond from the banks of Jamaica Pond Thursday morning. The students took buckets of fish to the shore and helped 1,250 rainbow, brook, brown and tiger trout swim away. Here is some additional information on the annual Jamaica Plain event from the state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs: This stocking event is part of an annual program that distributes various species of trout to 500 bodies of water throughout the Commonwealth. This year, the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife) will release more than 510,000 trout produced at state-operated hatcheries in Belchertown and Sandwich. The 60-…

The annual rite of spring, the restocking of Jamaica Pond with more than 1,000 trout and salmon, took place Wednesday morning.
West Roxbury YMCA students and teachers, local politicians and even Gov. Deval Patrick were on hand Wednesday for the annual restocking of Jamaica Pond. More than 1,150 trout and salmon were released into the pond. Among the attendees were District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley and state Rep. Liz Malia, D-Jamaica Plain. O'Malley was fresh from having completed the Boston Marathon on Monday. Even the landscape mastermind behind Boston's park system, Frederick Law Olmsted, was there in spirit, as JP's Gerry Wright reprised his ongoing role interpreting the 19th-century figure. “This event is a great way to educate our young people about fishing, wildlife and the importance of protecting our natural resources,” Patrick said in a press …

Studies have shown that you can keep your marriage alive by sharing new experiences.
While walking around Jamaica Pond the other day, I found the boat house open with a new schedule. The rowboats were actually in the water and the flag was flying high in the windy weather and there were a few people at the front desk. Hmmm, sailing, it sure has been awhile. Studies have shown that you can keep your marriage alive by sharing new experiences; especially ones that have a bit of excitement in them, and novelty can help create a closer bond. That said, jump on your bikes and find your way to Jamaica Pond where you’ll find one of the Courageous Sailing programs and plenty of supplies for novel nautical urban sailing, kayaking and/or rowing. People circle the pond regularly, but how many actually grab a boat and experience the …
