Q&A: Police Captain Hasson on Crime, 'The Town', and State Police

Listen to your local Boston Police captain when he tells you to lock your doors.

Boston Police Captain Jason Hasson sat down with Patch editor David Ertischek recently to talk about crime trends in both West Roxbury and Roslindale, cop movies, and collaborating with other districts. Patch: How long have you been captain of District E-5? Hasson: I came her August 2006. Before that I was in Roxbury. Patch: What areas does District E-5 cover? Hasson: All of West Roxbury, basically half of Roslindale - everything coming down Hyde Park Avenue on the right side up to Poplar Street and then it follows Poplar, Beech, and Georgetown (in Hyde Park).  Patch: How do the Boston Police districts work together on the lines? Letter: Kerry (Egan) Ryan Earns Promotion with BPD

Kerry Egan Ryan worked at District E-5 for five years helping in more ways than can ever be counted.

To the Editor: I’d like to bid farewell to one of E5’s more beloved employees: Kerry (Egan) Ryan an irreplaceable person. Kerry will be leaving us in June after being with us for almost five years and has really made a difference within our community. With all of her refreshing enthusiasm, easy–going manner, intelligence, and overall extreme friendliness she has paved new inroads in to the hearts of those we serve. She has done this through the many programs she either participates in or organizes whether it is “sweatin’ with the seniors”, trips to Castle Island, the citizen police academy, or the other numerous activities that she feels will best serve those in need. Kerry has done such a great job at E5 that she is being recognized …

Captain Hasson: Hot Spots for Public Drinking Being Patrolled

District 5 Officers will be heavily patrolling Billings Field, Fallon Field, Roxbury Latin woods, the Annunciation, and the Arboretum in order to deter local youth from drinking at these locations.

Dear Residents: As we transition into summer, we would like remind residents that summer events at our local parks and holiday cookouts held at our homes can lead to traffic safety concerns. We encourage our community members to enjoy social gatherings and celebrate in a safe fashion. Please adhere to the rules of the road.  Be aware of parking signs that state hour limits or no parking. Be advised that it is illegal to park in front of a fire hydrant, a driveway, or a handicap spot and those who choose to ignore the city’s parking limitations will be ticketed or towed. With limited parking spaces available at large events, it is important to adhere to parking regulations in order to prevent unsafe circumstances in case of an emergency. …

One spot that is repeatedly reported and barely patrolled is the Urban Wild bordering Vincent Street and the VFW parkway. There are constant drinking parties, with bottles and drug paraphernalia left behind all summer. Recently there have been reports of BB gun shootings toward cars passing by at the rotary. When will the police start paying attention to this spot????   more ›
