Catholic Memorial School seniors Mark Woodall, Marcus Jackson, Andy Rogantino and Kevin Donnelly won the first state title in school history in the category of Multiple Reading at Saturday’s Massachusetts Forensics League state championship meet on March 31. The senior team performed “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” by the Reduced Shakespeare Company, a comic watering-down of the Bard’s volumes. Remarkably, Donnelly and Woodall earned a second state championship in another category at the event, hosted by Chelmsford High School on Saturday. Catholic Memorial’s speech and debate team earned a third place trophy at Shrewsbury High School’s prestigious Mardi Gras Forensics Tournament on March 3, thanks to the efforts of West Roxbury seniors Mark Woodall and Kevin Donnelly. The two earned a first-place finish, along with two teammates, in the multiple reading category. As a duo, they earned a fifth-place award, and as an individual, Donnelly earned a fourth-place award in the category of dramatic performance. Two weeks earlier, at the University of Pennsylvania’s “Liberty Bell Classic” in Philadelphia, Woodall earned a second place medal for dramatic performance, while the team finished in third place. The National Forensic League's Speech and Debate Honor Society honored Kevin Donnelly of West Roxbury with the top prize in New England on Saturday at the annual NFL Qualifiers tournament, held at Manchester High School. Donnelly, captain of CM's speech and debate team, joined eight of CM's top speakers at the qualifying tournament on Saturday, where Mark Woodall of West Roxbury and Marcus Jackson of Randolph made it to final rounds and Jackson was selected as a Nationals alternate in the category of Dramatic Interpretation. Kevin Donnelly of West Roxbury earned a trip to the National Catholic Forensic League Grand Tournament at George Mason University over Memorial Day weekend after an impressive year of wins in the category of original oratory. At Nationals, Donnelly competed against 256 other students in his category. Despite not advancing to the finals, Donnelly had an impressive run on Friday and Saturday, making the octo-final round of 48. “Our team represented us well this weekend,” said head coach Rob Croteau. “They enjoyed themselves, and they showed great enthusiasm for the competition.
