Two of the biggest heavyweights in the mayor's race reside in West Roxbury - John Connoly and Dan Conley.
Numerous West Roxbury residents have submitted nomination papers for Boston's mayoral and city council races. Of the 17 candidates who submitted mayoral nomination papers, two West Roxbury residents are clearly first and second in having the most cash for their campaigns. Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley has more than $1 million cash on hand for his campaign, according to the Office of Campaign and Political Finance (OCPF); Although Conley's campaign did have more than $800,000 before he announced his mayoral candidacy. Congressman and US Senate candidate Ed Markey is the Democratic candidate for the special US Senate election.
Democratic US Senate candidate Ed Markey was joined by several local political leaders in a campaign stop at Roche Bros in West Roxbury on Tuesday. While fielding media questions, the congressman would stop to greet shoppers, "Can I say hello? I'm Congressman Ed Markey." District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley has spent the lockdown time checking media reports, seeing if friends and family are safe, and hoping for the suspect to be caught.
Gripped to media reports like the majority of Boston area residents is how Boston District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley is riding out the stay in shelter lockdown. "I’m sitting in my living room since 6:20 a.m. this morning watching television, waiting, hoping and praying there’s no more innocent victims," said O'Malley, who texted his staff early to let them know to stay home. He said he also received a robocall from NotifyBoston letting him know about the stay in shelter order while law officials search for one of the two bombing suspects. In 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, and 2012 I took a right on Hereford and then a left on Boylston. After running 26 miles, seeing the finish line of the Boston Marathon ranks among the greatest feelings in the world. Last year, in fact, I videotaped the final 2/10th's of a mile and uploaded it to Youtube. I wanted to record the feeling of pure bliss. I am equally sad and angry that someone has sought to destroy that. It is beyond difficult to comprehend how some coward could commit the acts of today. District 6 City Councilor has tweeted he can provide shelter.
District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley tweeted he will be able to house runners from out of town. "Any out of town runners that need shelter/rides/help: DM me. My place is yours." said a tweet from @MattOMalley at 5:16 p.m. O'Malley lives in Jamaica Plain. There were two explosions near the finish line of today's Boston Marathon. A third explosion has been reported at JFK Library at UMass Boston. Patch will provide updates as they become available.

Mayor Thomas Menino, Boston's longest standing mayor, will not run for office this November. As the Hub's mayor for 20 years, he leaves behind a legacy with the city's citizens and with city councilors. The New England region has a distinct advantage that it could host the winter or summer games.
There hasn't been an Olympic games hosted in America since 1996 in Atlanta, and like leaders at Massachusetts' State House, the Boston City Council will be exploring the feasibility of bringing the games to New England.
