Parkway Pop Warner Falcons Still Perfect at Mansfield

The Falcons are flying high into the third week of the season with home games at the West Roxbury Education Complex.

The following article was written by Dave Susich. The Parkway Pop Warner program remains unbeaten after the first three games of the season. Both the D and E teams followed opening day wins at Dedham with consecutive road wins at Randolph and Mansfield. The wins were particularly satisfying because both Parkway squads lost to Randolph and Mansfield last year. The D team fumbled the opening snap at Randolph, and the athletic Blue Devils exploited the turnover for a quick score to lead 7-0. Parkway then took over the game. Behind strong line play from Pat Creavin and Luke Bortolotto and aggressive lead blocking by the Falcon backs, Cam Kewley and Tobi Ojo each scored twice and Matt Susich scored once as the Falcons scored 32 unanswered …

Parkway Pop Warner Falcons Come Out Flying in Season Opener

The Parkway Pop Warner E and D Falcons teams won their opening games this weekend.

The 2012 Pop Warner football season opened on Labor Day, as the Parkway Falcons took on their crosstown rivals, the Dedham Marauders, at Barnes Memorial Field in Dedham.  Dave Susisch wrote this article. The D team contest featured players ages 9 to 11 and was a hard fought battle in the midday sun. Both offenses battered their opposing defenses in the first half with long, grueling drives. The Marauders landed the game’s first score, but Parkway defenders Nathan Fitzgerald and Jimmy Sullivan combined to thwart the conversion and hold the score to 6-0.   The Parkway defense, led by Sam Wright and Justin Siri, rallied in the second half and stifled the Marauders’ offense. After the Falcons offense turned the ball over on downs inside the …

Photos: Summer Practice for Parkway Pop Warner Squads

Players can still join the Parkway Pop Warner teams - start with visiting a practice at Billings Field.

Before putting on the pads, the Parkway Pop Warner football teams need to fulfill 10 hours of physical training. That doesn't mean the boys weren't out at Billings Field having a great time! Running, catching, tackling, blocking, all the while getting plenty of grass stains - the Parkway Pop Warner coaches drilled the boys at Billings Field. And it's not too late to sign-up for the teams. Boys and girls ages 7 to 15 from West Roxbury, Roslindale and Jamaica Plain can join the teams.  Here's the league's website, or come down to Billings Field on a weekday night from 6-8 p.m. during practice time.

Parkway Pop Warner Receives USA Football $1000 Equipment Grant

The grant provided the Parkway Pop Warner football program with eight brand new helmets.

The heads of the Parkway Pop Warner Falcons program will be protected by brand new helmets this season. Parkway Pop Warner was recently "recognized by USA Football for its commitment to the youth of the Parkway Community" wrote Brian Kewley, Director of Football Operations on the league's website.  The program received a $1000 football equipment grant from USA Football. The grant provided the program with eight brand new Riddell Revolution Speed helmets. Parkway Pop Warner had already invested in new helmets for all of its players for the upcoming season. "Keeping our players safe is the priority for PPW and these new helmets will go a long way in protecting our players," wrote Kewley.

Parkway Pop Warner Campers Learn Football Skills at Billings Field

More than 100 young football players took to Billings Field to learn about tackling, blocking, and the option offense.

Last week, about 150 young athletes ages 6 to 14 endured the heat each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during a Parkway Pop Warner youth football camp at Billings Field. Volunteers and coaches from as far as Texas led campers in football and agility drills in the mornings, and the afternoons were for fun and games. The camp was sponsored by The Link: Boston, a new community focused church that is starting in February 2013.  Ryne Deckard with The Link: Boston was positive about the week’s events, “For being the camp’s first year, it went off with very few glitches. It was awesome seeing the involvement of the volunteers and even more amazing seeing all of the kids having fun.” Campers, some of whom just starting playing football, had the …

Parkway Pop Warner Falcons Fly Into Second Half of Season

Annual Parkway Pop Warner Comedy Night Fundraiser is this Saturday.

This article was contributed by Dave Susich. The Parkway Pop Warner season did not begin the way the Falcons had planned.  The three Falcon teams came out of August brimming with optimism after a very successful season last year and a good, hard month of practice. Mistakes and miscues, however, cost them repeated games in September.  All three teams fell to 0-3, punctuated by a disastrous late-September swoon at Sharon. The C Team lost 6-0 to Sharon after a Falcons punt return for a touchdown was called back on a celebration penalty. The D Team followed by losing 7-6 as a result of multiple fumbles, despite holding the Eagles without a first down in the second half. The E Team capped the day by falling 20-14 after giving up the game-…

Falcons fall by a final of 7-6.

The Parkway Pop Warner D Team stood tall on the defensive side of the ball Sunday, but couldn't come up with a winning score. The Falcons played hard but lost in the defensive struggle by just one point, 7-6. Photographer Amy Alessi sent these photos to Patch.
