Salons across the Greater Boston area raised money on Sunday for the Emergency & Trauma Fund at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Lord's & Lady's Hair Salons participated in a HAIRraising event this past Sunday, raising money for the Emergency & Trauma Fund at Boston Children's Hospital. Onhand for the event included Boston EMS employees, Boston Police, and Lord Mayor Richie Gormley (who didn't get his haircut). All of the funds raised were to go to the Children's Hospital fund. Click here for a list of participating salons, and for more on the HAIRraising organization. "I'm extremely proud of my team at Lord's & Lady's for volunteering their time and expertise in this cut-a-thon fundraiser. I'm also very grateful to this tight West Roxbury community for their support and generosity," said Mike Barsamian owner of Lord's & Lady's Salon.

How has life changed for Lord Mayor Richie Gormley in the last year? He gets a lot of calls asking him to get streets plowed, get kids into local schools - and was honored at the South Boston St. Patrick's Day Breakfast.
Lord Mayor Richie Gormley of West Roxbury was officially crowned on March 30 of 2012. Since then the soft-spoken and understated funeral home owner has had quite a year chock full of honors, fun and constituent requests. "It’s been a whirlwind," said Tom "TD" Dougherty, Vice Mayor to Gormley's lordship, and some might say, sidekick. "We're never going to have another Lord Mayor. The first legislation he passed is he made it a lifelong appointment. No one represents West Roxbury better than Richie Gormley, the Lord Mayor of West Roxbury." Conversely, Gormley said that TD actually enacted the legislation to make it a lifetime appointment. But does it really matter? "It’s been great seeing Richie work his magic through the city of Boston, …

The Westmeath Independent in Ireland provided a glimpse into Lord Mayor Richie Gormley's visit to Ireland.
Some have wondered about where Lord Mayor Richie Gormley has been during the last couple of weeks... and we've got answers from the Irish newspaper - The Westmeath Independent. Gormley told the newspaper: "It's a lot quieter here. I live on a busy street with a lot of traffic back home. It's a good getaway. It's got a fantastic view. You wouldn't get that in the States," he smiles before taking the Westmeath Independent from his modern house to the nearby ancestral home which he has lovingly restored from dereliction in recent years. "I want to keep my own heritage alive. I've thatched my ancestral home and I've made it liveable. A lot of people come from the States and they prefer to stay in the old house rather than the new home," he …

With rumors flying up and down Centre Street about Richie Gormley's whereabouts, it's best to let the imagination run wild...
Several weeks ago I received a tip from a trusted source - that Lord Mayor Richie Gormley was going to be out of town for a while - and there rumblings about his reign being overthrown. So far, no one has reported any Saroufim tanks rolling down Centre Street. The Mary Mulvey Madness has not made its way from JP to Spring Street. And the Gormley Funeral Home has continued business as usual. Tom "TD" Dougherty, Gormley's appointed Deputy Mayor, said that Gormley has been away on an "international relations trip" for the last couple of weeks, but could not elaborate more. He said that he and the Lord Mayor have been in constant contact about West Roxbury, while Gormley has been abroad, possibly at a sheep farm in Ireland. TD added he has …

Lord Mayor Gormley's profile has grown considerably in recent months, as he is on a "tour" of Ireland today.
The celebrity status of Lord Mayor Richie Gormley grows by the day. Crowds cheer louder for his name than any other dignitary or noted person, when at local events. Gormley's reach is also being seen more and more outside of the West Roxbury community. He was asked to march in Dedham's June 14 44th Annual Flag Day Parade. Gormley was unavailable for comment at current time as he out of the country, visiting Ireland, no doubt to meet with leaders of that country. Earlier this year, Gormley met with Ireland's President

The Irish Social Club continually applies for temporary alcohol licenses after a board member mistakenly gave back the club's alcohol license.
The Boston City Council unanimously supported a homerule petition to give the Irish Social Club of Boston a permanent special full-alcohol license from the state, months after a member mistakenly returned the club's previous license. If granted, the license would only be for the Irish Social Club of Boston and would not be transferrable. Councilors Matt O'Malley and Stephen Murphy petitioned for the state homerule petition, which would need to be approved and signed by the governor, for the Club to get an alcohol license immediately. At the Council's regular Wednesday meeting, O'Malley spoke of the Club's beginnings in Roxbury, 65 years ago, and eventual move to Park Street in West Roxbury. Last April, the club's former leadership …

Lord Mayor Richie Gormley was one of several local Parkway faces to try out Sugar Baking Co. & Restaurants first dinner.
The Sugar Baking Co. & Restaurant in Roslindale held two nights of invite-only dinners, before opening to the public for dinner for the first time this past weekend. Owner Eric Battite was onhand greeting friends, family and some familiar faces in the fabric of the Parkway community for the soft opening last Wednesday and Thursday. Battite said there are going to be specials incorporating the produce from the Roslindale Village Farmers' Market. Sugar Baking Co. & Restaurant opened last year taking over the space of the longtime a. Boschetto Bakery, but was operating as a breakfast, lunch and bakery business. Some of the familiar faces onhand included: Lord Mayor Richie Gormley, Carol O'Connor of Tablecritic.com, Frank Sullivan, and …

Roslindale's Ed Colvin, 19, took first place after finishing second the previous three years.
"It's about time," remarked Ed Colvin, only 19 years old, after winning the 19th Annual Corrib Classic 5K Race on Sunday. While most runners were happy to get out on the course, Colvin had a mission to win, after finishing second, the previous three years. The Catholic Memorial alum came streaking down Lagrange Street with a 100-yard lead on the next runner to finish. "It was tough. I led most of it," said Colvin, who ran for Brandeis University as a freshman. After Colvin the rest of the more than 2,500 runners crossed the finish line and headed onto Billings Field to catch up with old friend, family, and enjoy a pony ride or two. After finishing, Allison MacDougall joined her husband Steve, and two kids, Ella, 6, and Sam, 4, who had …

I know Doug McClure, Doug McClure is a friend of mine, however, Doug McClure is no Richie Gormley, but Doug did say the magic words- a run for the money. Last year's race for unofficial Mayor of West Roxbury raised a lot of money for local charities. Maybe we need a second election, which Richie would win hands down, I mean, open to all to benefit the charities.   more ›
