Hundreds Honor Lord Mayor Gormley: "He's Done So Much, For So Many, So Quietly"

West Roxbury honored its own Unofficial Mayor Friday with a big parade and a packed-house fundraiser at the Irish Social Club. Attendees included Sen. Scott Brown and Mayor Thomas Menino.

Two teen girls, noticing the film crew walking down Centre Street, asked what was going on. When told it was for the Unofficial Mayor of West Roxbury, one of them replied, "Oh yeah. Scott Brown presented Gormley with a baseball bat so that newly sworn in unofficial mayor could maintain order. Sen. Brown also chatted on the phone with Governor Deval Patrick when he called to congratulate Lord Mayor Gormley.
