District Attorney Dan Conley is the only Boston mayoral candidate with more than $1 million in cash for his campaign.
There will be at least 12 candidates on the Sept. 24 ballot for mayor, as Boston's Elections Department continues to certify signatures. One candidate not yet to be certified as of Monday morning is barstoolsports.com owner David Portnoy. While Portnoy may be more entertainment than a serious candidate to run City Hall, many of the candidates who are expected to garner the most votes have been certified well ahead of the June 25 deadline. District Attorney Dan Conley has the most money in his campaign with more than $1.1 million, according to the Office of Campaign and Political Finance's website. At-Large City Councilor John Connolly has $564,000 for his campaign, followed by fellow city councilor District 8's Mike Ross with $453,000…

Federal cuts eliminated the resident coordinator program that services 3,500 residents across all Boston neighborhoods.
City Councilor Rob Consalvo called for stop gap funding to save the Boston Housing Authority resident services program that assists more than 3,500 low-income, elderly and disabled residents across the city. "On May 1 the resident services program was ended due to cuts on the federal level that funded the program the and the impact of those cuts are being felt locally," said District 5 City Councilor Rob Consalvo, during Wednesday's council meeting. "All resident service coordinators were eliminated..." In total, 40 positions are no longer being funded. "This has a dire and serious impact on Boston people who are still going to live in public housing. (Resident Service Coordinators) work day-to-day to provide help on healthcare, …

Patch: Why did you decide to run for mayor? Consalvo: I’m running for mayor because I love the city of Boston. I think it’s the greatest city on Earth. District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley says he would sacrifice himself if he, John Connolly and Michael Ross, were falling off a cliff and he could save both of them.
District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley, representing West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, parts of Roslindale and Mission Hill, talked about his endorsement of John Connolly for Boston mayor, his food preferences, and delicious Boston tap water with Patch. Patch: You endorsed At-Large City Councilor John Connolly for Boston mayor? O'Malley: Correct. Patch: But now your fellow colleagues Felix Arroyo, Rob Consalvo and Michael Ross are all running to be the next Boston mayor – did you endorse too soon? O'Malley: No. I think this is among the most important elections of my lifetime and many Bostonians' lifetime. Tom Menino will go down as one of the greatest mayors in Boston’s history and whomever follows him will have enormous shoes to fill. I …

The State Department of Public Health is working on coming up with statewide regulations.
As municipalities across Massachusetts await medical marijuana regulations from the State Department of Public Health, the Boston City Council is preparing the city the best it can for medical marijuana come January 1. The state has a 120-day window starting Jan. 1 to create regulations for medical marijuana dispensaries, but the state law states medical marijuana dispensaries can be opened on Jan. 1. The state law also says anyone who receives a prescription from their physician can then legally grow their own marijuana. District 5 City Councilor Rob Consalvo, chair of the Committee on Public Safety, said the city is continuing to work on creating zoning to allow medical marijuana dispensaries. Consalvo has said medical marijuana …

Boston will be updating its zoning code to permit medical marijuana dispensaries in specific areas around the city.
Massachusetts voters spoke loud and clearly on Election Day by overwhelmingly supporting the legalization of medical marijuana starting January 1. Now Boston has to figure out where the medical marijuana dispensaries will be within the city. District 5 City Councilor Rob Consalvo led the charge at Wednesday's Boston City Council meeting, saying while they don't know how many facilities the city will get yet, it's clear they will get some. "I’m proposing what we do regularly - update our zoning code," Consalvo said. "This will be my seventh effort of amending the zoning code. Clearly this is a new use and a new change in front of us." But first the state needs to provide regulations, "We don’t know how the state regulations will take …

City Councilor Rob Consalvo estimated that Boston will get about four medical marijuana dispensaries in 2013. Now where will they be located?
The Boston City Council on Wednesday will begin its discussion of how Boston will handle the legalization of medical marijuana. "We respect the will of voters," said District 5 City Councilor Rob Consalvo, who filed an order to hold the necessary hearing. "In the first year alone 35 dispensaries are to open up (in Massachusetts), and it's unlimited after that." Consalvo said he is guessing that Boston will start with four dispensaries due to it having 10 percent of the state's population. He said he was unaware of whether there is a difference between medical dispensaries and growing facilities, but that will be discussed at the hearing. An unlike several Massachusetts municipalities, such as Reading, which created zoning rules to not …

The Boston City Council supported a redistricting map, the third one, after the first two were vetoed by Mayor Menino.
The Boston City Council is hoping the third's time the charm for their latest redistricting map submitted to Mayor Thomas Menino on Wednesday. The Council supported a redistricting map at Wednesday's meeting by a vote of 11-2, with the two votes against the map coming from District 4 City Councilor Charles Yancey, and the chair of the Census Committee, District 2 City Councilor Bill Linehan. The map now awaits Menino's approval or disapproval. Menino has vetoed the last two redistricting maps, citing concerns of an "over-concentration of protected groups" in districts both times. The Council-approved map was originally submitted by Councilors Frank Baker, Rob Consalvo and Matt O'Malley. At Wednesday's meeting, District 7 City Councilor …
