West Roxbury Patch Athlete of the Week

Patch Athlete of the Week: RL Football, Lacrosse Captain Finn Sullivan

Sullivan has played four varsity sports at RL.

The Roxbury Latin School is known for giving its students a well-rounded education in and out of the classroom. On the athletic field, few are as well-rounded as West Roxbury native Finn Sullivan, who will enter his senior year later this month. Sullivan, who will serve as the captain of the football team this fall and has already served a season as the captain of the lacrosse team, has also played both hockey and basketball at the varsity level. The four-sport star spoke with Patch about his experiences on the field, attending RL as a West Roxbury native, and his expectations for the Red Foxes on the gridiron this season. Having grown up in West Roxbury, it must have been fairly special to be named as a captain in two sports at RL. What's…

Area Private Schools Keeping Enrollment Up This Fall

From West Roxbury to Braintree and Cape Cod, private and parochial schools count on academic success, values and top-notch facilities to keep student demand high.

Yet despite the relatively expensive annual …

Roslindale's Gavin Pittore Leads Roxbury Latin to Win in Season Finale

Roxbury Latin defeats Rivers 15-0 to end season at 12-5.

Earlier this season, Roslindale resident and Roxbury Latin junior pitcher Gavin Pittore found himself on the losing end of a 15-0 loss at Belmont Hill, watching from the mound as his team fell to a slow 1-2 start. In a showing of what can go wrong when a pitcher loses his control, Pittore hit six batters in that game. But in Monday afternoon's season finale against Rivers, it was the Parkway Little League alumnus who saw his and his team's fortunes run in stark contrast to that early season hiccup as the Foxes closed out a 12-5 season with a 15-0 home win of their own. Pittore went six one-hit innings in the victory, holding Rivers hitless through five innings. "When I look at my guys, he was the guy who improved the most from start to …
