West Roxbury Gets Wicked Sharp about Hurricane Sandy Relief Drive

Wicked Sharp Ski & Sports led the drive, with the St. Theresa's community and Irish Social Club pitching in to aid Hurricane Sandy victims.

Boxes and bags of Luvs, Pampers, bottles of water, sweaters, sweatshirts, hats and more were piled on tables at the Irish Social Club on Monday afternoon. Volunteers like West Roxbury's Thomas Bergeron brought in bag after bag of donations raised by the Wicked Sharp Ski & Sports Hurricane Sandy Relief Drive in the last week. Said Bergeron (who heard about volunteering through a West Roxbury Patch tweet about volunteers being needed) spoke about why he came down to help. "We definitely wanted to donate our time because we didn't get hit hard, but we know people who did."  Bergeron added he has family in Long Island, NY, who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. West Roxbury's Jocelyn Bourgault (who also heard about volunteers being needed …

Photo of the Week: Dawn Flight Over St. Theresa's

West Roxbury resident Tom Burke submitted this beautiful photo. Submit your West Roxbury photos to West Roxbury Patch.

West Roxbury resident Tom Burke sent in this cool photo looking of a plane flying over St. Theresa's Church. Burke included this excerprted poem from "High Flight" by John G. Magee., Jr., a RCAF pilot, that goes along with the photo. "I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God." Photos: St. Theresa Mock Trial - Commonwealth vs. Jack B. Stalk

St. Theresa of Avila School held its annual mock trial on Friday.

The St. Theresa of Avila School held its annual mock trial on Friday with the hard-hitting case of "The Commonwealth vs. Jack B. Stalk." Inside Monsignor Donahue Hall, more than 40 fifth- and sixth-graders worked closely with three students from the Boston College Law School to prepare for the presentation of the case.  Judge David Donnelly, First Justice of the Brighton District Court, presided during the proceedings, which ended in a guilty verdict by the jury of fourth-graders.

Photos: St. Theresa's Father and Daughter Dance

Dads and daughters donned their best duds for a night out dancing.

February 10th was a daddy-daughter night for some Parkway families, as girls and their dads dressed up for a special night at the St. Theresa School Annual Father Daughter Dance. Now remember dads, in 10 years when you're arguing with your daughters about adult stuff, think back to the annual Father Daughter Dance.  The dance was held in Monsignor Donahue Hall.  Got any more photos of the event? Attach them to this article or email davide@patch.com And what do you think about the annual father daughter dance?

Remembering Sister Mary Julia Breheny, CSJ

Sister Mary Julia Breheny, CSJ - December 28, 1926 - July 20, 2011.

The following was given by Brenda L. Forry, CSJ of Sister Mary Julia Breheny, who touched so many lives in the Parkway community through her years at St. Theresa's, Sacred Heart and more. This article appears courtesy of the Sisters of St. Joseph. As we come together this evening to celebrate the life of Sister Mary Julia Breheny among us, many thoughts cross our minds. Julia was a gentle, kind person. The words found at the beginning of the Constitution of the Sisters of Saint Joseph describe Julia perfectly. “The Sister of Saint Joseph moves always toward profound love of God and love of neighbor in humility, in sincere charity- the manner of Saint Joseph whose name she bears, with an orientation toward excellence tempered by gentleness…

I read this with tears in my eyes, but feel so blessed to have been a student of Sister Mary Julia. Though She has passed, She will continue to live on in so many people who's lives She has touched. Without disrespect to any other teachers from my childhood, Sister Julia was always my favorite. I can't possibly say enough about Her, and can feel Her smiling down on Me. ... - and the rest of the …   more ›
