Congressmen Edward Markey and Stephen Lynch, the two Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate, have agreed to participate in six debates between now and the April 30 primary, according to the Boston Herald. The Boston Herald’s Chris Cassidy just Tweeted that three of the debates will be general format, with the remaining three focusing on jobs, domestic issues and foreign policy. One of the debates will be held in Boston, and others will be held in Lowell, New Bedford, Worcester and Springfield. The location of the sixth debate has not been determined. The bill eases portions of the so-called "fiscal cliff."
The U.S. House of Representatives approved a deal late Tuesday to ease portions of the so-called "fiscal cliff," according to the Huffington Post. How did our local representatives in Congress vote? Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-South Boston, supported the measure. The compromise was approved by the Senate at 2 a.m. Tuesday, and despite talk of rejecting it, the House ultimately passed the bill by a vote of 257 to 167. Sens. Scott Brown and John Kerry both supported the measure in the Senate. "Just voted for the fiscal cliff bill," Brown said on his Facebook Page at 1:55 a.m on New Year's Day. "Not the full answer but a small step forward. A lot of work next session. Good luck."

Democratic US Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren made her last election eve stop a memorable one at the Truman Rally in West Roxbury on Monday night. After numerous candidates gave quick stump speeches, Ed Kelly, president of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, introduced Warren from a stage on Hastings Street. "It's about whose side are you on?" asked Warren to the pro-Warren crowd evidenced by her campaign signs easily outnumbering any other candidates. Republican US Sen. Scott Brown did not attend the nonpartisan event. And Warren took it to her opponent, "Too often Scott Brown stands with millionaires and billionaires... he doesn't stand for working families.
