What Business Would You Like to See Open in West Roxbury in 2013?

West Roxbury's commercial district has grown and changed through the years, what business would you like to see in the neighborhood in 2013?

West Roxbury's business district is doing well, with only five storefront vacancies as of November 19 out of 200 storefront properties!  In 2012 West Roxbury saw the Vietnamese sandwich shop Banh Mi Ngon join Centre Street's Restaurant Row. LeanWorks has found a home in the Shaw's Plaza.  A couple steps away from LeanWorks is KokoFitClub, that allows you to come and go and do individualized workouts without needing a trainer present. And while Belgrade Place is not a business people come and go through, it definitely added its mark to the West Roxbury landscape in 2012. So what kind of businesses would you like to see come to West Roxbury in 2013? What's the neighborhood missing? Leave your comments and suggestions below.

Those are all good suggestions, AJ. I'd like to have a bowling alley in the neighborhood.   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: 1402 Centre Street

What should be done with this very visibly dilapidated corner of Weld and Centre streets?

The building at 1402 Centre Street is dilapidated, but the corner location is prime real estate - don't you think?  Welcome to Visions for Vacancies, an article that asks residents what you think should go at vacant commercial locations. This is a very visible spot in the Parkway nested on the border of West Roxbury and Roslindale at the intersection of Centre and Weld streets. It used to be the Weld American Auto Service, but no car has been fixed there for a long time. Could a restaurant go there? Would you stop off there after getting off the VFW Parkway or through the rotary hell closer to the city? Let us know what you want see in this vacant spot in the comments section below.

The lot seems small for a live music venue, I have always thought a Dunkin Donuts would fit there if a drive-thru could be situated w/o a dangerous exit. But more important is this: the lot is contaminated with pollutants and should have been dealt with decades ago.   more ›

Vacancy Filled: Marino's Deli Coming to Centre Street

Marino's Deli is coming to corner of Centre and Park streets soon.

In April, West Roxbury Patch asked what could go into the empty storefront at 1906 Centre Street? Commenters made it clear - they did not want another bank, pizza place or nail salon. Wish granted. Marino's Deli will be opening in the coming weeks at the corner spot at Park and Centre streets. Marino's Deli does already have one West Roxbury location on the VFW Parkway, which has quickly gained a reputation for good sandwiches. So what do you think of Marino's Deli coming to Centre Street? Leave a comment below. And what would you like to see come into 1455 VFW Parkway?

Another deli, why does Marino want another location so close to his other shop. I wish it were more retail coming to this space.   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: 1455 VFW Parkway

What could go in this empty storefront on the VFW Parkway?

What kind of business would you like to see in this storefront property at 1455 VFW Parkway?  It is one of the first buildings you see when heading towards Dedham, so it's got visibility. Previously, there was a furniture/chair business. Parking is a tough situation right there. There are a couple of spots, but it's because the roadway is so busy.  If a store were to open, it would benefit from having iParty next door, which gets a good crowd, especially during certain seasons. So what do you want to see here? Leave your suggestions in the comments area below.

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Go Here?

The commercial property at 1906 Centre Street is vacant and looking for a tenant. What do you think should go there?

While many main streets are dotted with vacant storefronts, West Roxbury's central thoroughfare - Centre Street, has been minimally affected during the last fiscally recessive years. One vacant commercial property is the storefront at 1906 Centre Street at the intersection of Park and Centre streets. The phrase "Location, location, location" comes to mind in regards to this leaseable property.  There was a Payless Shoe Store there, which closed in the last year. So what do you think should come into this vacant property? Please leave your comments below this article.

Rumor has it that a TD Bank is going into the Zoots spot. At least the building will get a facelift as it does need it...   more ›
