The Parkway Running Club's 19th Annual Walter's Run 5K had 479 runners participate in the race that raises funds for three charitable organizations.
The streets of West Roxbury were packed with runners on Sunday morning as the running of the 19th annual Walter's Run 5K started with a pistol from the YMCA. Westborough's Dave Brown won with a time of 15:58. West Roxbury's top finisher was Dave Hannon finished 4th overall with a time of 17:27. Amanda Walsh, of Boston, was the top female finisher with a time of 18:52, for 12th overall. Roslindale's top finisher was 15-year-old Isaiah Westphalen who finished 8th overall with a time of 18:40, which easily netted him first place in the 13-19 age divisions. The Parkway Running Club 5K race benefits three local causes, and is named in honor of Walter Burgess.
The pistol will be fired for the 19th annual Walter’s Run, a 5K race on Sunday, both ending and starting at the West Roxbury YMCA. A free Little Kids Race will take place at 10:40 a.m., followed by the 5K starting at 11 a.m. Walter’s Run is organized by the Parkway Running Club. The 5K racecourse has been wheel-measured, the first 350 runners receive free running gloves and a swag bag. There's also a raffle, and a postrace feast provided by local merchants, trophies for the top finishers and medals for the top three runners in each age group.
