Due to the high demand for the Families in Need program, donations are being sought to offset additional costs.
For those of you who may not know about the Family in Need effort, for many years, the West Roxbury Business and Professional Association, in coordination with the West Roxbury YMCA, Ethos /AgeWell West Roxbury, and our Boston Police Department, identify a list of families and seniors who need holiday groceries at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We then work with Roche Bros. who offers us consideration on the cost and then bags up the groceries and turkeys for us for distribution. We also identify one or two families with greater needs and “adopt” them, offering them assistance as well as presents from the business and residential …

The West Roxbury Business and Professional Association organizes delivery of groceries to families in need during the holiday season.
Volunteers are needed to deliver groceries to elderly and needy West Roxbury and Roslindale residents this holiday season. Entertainers Fenian Sons, and DJ George Manning donated their time, too. “We raised much more money than I had expected; this will not only ensure that we have West Roxbury looking great for this Christmas, but also establish a strong base for making sure West Roxbury will be …

The West Roxbury Business and Professional Association is seeking local support for its program to help families in need. The organizations aims to provide grocery deliveries to families with children as well as at-risk seniors and adults. This Christmas WRBPA has also chosen to "adopt" three families who are in a particularly difficult circumstances. Meet Sean, 11 and his dad, Stephen. Sean is an only child. Two years ago, Sean found his grandmother dead in their home. Sean had to deal with this loss, but life went on. Seven weeks ago, his mother, Judith, died at the age of 41. For many years, the West Roxbury Business and Professional Association has organized groceries deliveries to families with children and at-risk seniors and adults in the community at Thanksgiving and Christmas. For your information, this year’s deliveries will be made on Tuesday, November 22 and Friday, December 23. We will meet at Roche Bros. both days at 9:30 a.m. in the driveway abutting the MBTA Commuter Rail Parking Lot. We expect that this year’s groceries will cost approximately $40+ per delivery and we depend upon the businesses and residents to help make this long-standing tradition of reaching out to help possible. "Banks don't open branches unless there is business for them so it is a good sign of strength," said Mary Mulvey Jacobson, president of the West Roxbury Business and Professional Association.
TD Bank will be before the City of Boston's Board of Appeal on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. to seek zoning relief to open a branch at 1833 Centre St., the current location of Zoots. This would be a conditional use. They are requesting that they be allowed to demolish the existing structure, erect a one-story building for bank with a drive-thru ATM machines and to replace the existing free standing sign. If my calculations are correct, this will be the 14th bank in West Roxbury. It may seem like a lot, but back in the 1980s and 1990s, there were 13 banks in the community. With all the mergers and consolidations, the number of banks was reduced. Banks don't open branches unless there is business for them so it is a good sign of …
