Rock Thrown Through Window of West Roxbury Library

Three teenagers were escorted out of the West Roxbury Library, and shortly later a rock was thrown through a library window.

  A rock was thrown through a rear window of the West Roxbury Library's Children's Room on Dec. 14. Boston Police spoke with a librarian around 5 p.m., who said that shortly before closing three teenagers had been escorted out of the library after receiving complaints about the teens disruptive behavior.  Shortly after the three teens were asked to leave a rock was thrown through the double-pane window, valued at $500 or more, according to a Boston Police report. An officer also found a 23-ounce Arizona grapeade drink that appeared to be left there recently.  Descriptions of the three teens was broadcast, and three teens fitting the descriptions were found on Chapin Avenue in West Roxbury. But no positive identification could be made due …

  Children and parents enjoyed a vibrant storytelling session from Dr. Bookmark at the West Roxbury Library on Thursday. Can You Help Rotary & Library Find Dictionaries a Home?

The West Roxbury Branch Library has a surplus of hardcover dictionaries and would like to find homes for them.

  The West Roxbury Library and the West Roxbury-Roslindale Rotary want your help. The library has a surplus of dictionaries, and wants to place them in useful places. "We’d like to find a nice home for these where they can be a resource to its users and we'd like your help. If you can suggest places to donate these dictionaries, we would welcome the suggestions," said Domenic Rebelo of Rotary. Do you need a dictionary? Do you know of a school, organization or business that would benefit from having a dictionary or dictionaries? Please leave suggestions in the comment section.

Learn About James Joyce's 'Ulysses' Tonight at West Roxbury Library

  Tonight enjoy a free and lively discussion of James Joyce's "Ulysses" as the popular Great Courses DVD Lecture Series continues at 6 p.m. at the West Roxbury Library. "The Story of a Modern Masterpiece" about Joyce’s "Ulysses" is a video lecture by Prof. James A. W. Heffernan of Dartmouth College. And while you're there please discuss how in the world does "Ulysses" contain two sentences longer than 10,000 words?!

Last Chance... Learn about China in the New Millennium at West Roxbury Library

Come and discuss China in the new millennium at the West Roxbury Library tonight.

  Tonight the very popular video lecture series at the West Roxbury Library continues with "China in the New Millennium" at 6:30 p.m. "China in the New Millennium" is a video lecture given by Richard Baum of UCLA.  Min Hwa Kennard of the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement will respond to the video lecture and lead discussion. The event starts at 6:30 and runs until 7:45 p.m. and is free.

O'Malley's 2nd Annual Town Hall Tackles, Addresses Key Neighborhood Concerns

District City Councilor Matt O'Malley's 2nd Annual Town hall was a positive one. He garnered fruitful discussion, addressed a number of neighborhood issues and acknowledged future concerns.

  District 6 Boston City Councilor Matt O'Malley held his 2nd Annual Town Hall Meeting at the West Roxbury Public Library yesterday evening. The room was packed with about three dozen attendees. O’Malley was enthused by the crowd and eager to share his synopsis of the year. For him, these meetings are valuable and telling of his performance for the year. “I get enormous value out of meetings like these,” said O’Malley. “I always say your vote is a hiring decision, so I use this type of town hall meeting as my evaluation.” O’Malley opened up by highlighting some key events and initiatives from the past year.   West Roxbury's District Councilor Matt O'Malley will hold his 2nd Annual Town Hall Meeting on Thursday night. O'Malley said he'll give a brief presentation and then open the floor up to a Q&A session. O'Malley held a town hall-style meeting last year after being elected the District 6 Boston City Councilor. Said O'Malley, "It’s a great opportunity to report back on what I’ve been working on and seek input and guidance on a number of issues. The public is invited to take part." The Mayor joined Dora the Explorer to read to 100 preschool children as a part of the Start U Reading program.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino joined Dora the Explorer to read to nearly 100 preschool aged children on Nov. 2, 2011. Menino spoke to the children about the importance of reading. The event was a part of the the Start U Reading program, a “pro-student, non-profit” program that UFund College Savings Plan sponsors to make reading an enjoyable and integral part of children’s lives.
