Photos: West Roxbury YMCA Teen Camp Field Trip Fun!

The West Roxbury YMCA Teen Camp is living it up this summer going rock climbing, to X Factor auditions and more.

  Come school time in September, the campers (and counselors) of the West Roxbury YMCA Teen Camp will definitely be able to write a wonderful and fun essay about what they did this summer. So far, the camp has gone on rock climbing, to X Factor Auditions, Canobie Lake, and Codzilla. Check out photos of the fun.

Water Safety Tips from West Roxbury YMCA

West Roxbury YMCA offers several water programs for children and adults, including exercise classes in pools.

  As swim season is upon us, the West Roxbury YMCA reminds kids and adults about the importance of practicing safety when in and around the water. West Roxbury YMCA Renovations Making Headway

YMCA District Vice President Marion Kelly and West Roxbury YMCA Board of Advisors Chairman Jim Hennigan shared updated floor plans for the new YMCA site.

  After years of planning, the much anticipated West Roxbury Branch YMCA renovations are closer to breaking ground. YMCA District Vice President Marion Kelly and Board of Advisors Chairman Jim Hennigan shared their updated plans during the West Roxbury Neighborhood Council meeting at the District E-5 Police Station’s Community Room. “We came up with a new design that had more usable space within the existing footprint of the building,” said Kelly on Tuesday night. YMCA’s present 22,000 square foot facility will almost double to 39,000 square feet. Kelly and Hennigan took a moment to walk the council through the detailed floor plans. O'Connor and Bakas Among New West Roxbury YMCA Board Members

Four familiar faces named as new board members of the West Roxbury YMCA.

  Some familiar faces were unanimously voted onto the West Roxbury YMCA Board of Advisors - Janet Bakas, Anne Green, Robert McLaughlin and Jack O’Connor. Many people may recognize Janet Bakas with West Roxbury Main Streets, as well is the health care industry for the past 17 years, where she currently works at Faulkner Hospital and Harvard Vanguard. YMCA leaders praised Bakas' instrumental involvement in raising thousands for the Jimmy Fund and Main Streets through the “Pitching In” event.  Parkway-area resident Anne Green, AVP/Branch Manager of The Cooperative Bank, spoke about why she wanted to become board member. West Roxbury YMCA Offers Free Summer Memberships to Teens

Teens can visit any YMCA of Greater Boston branch to enroll with a valid state or student ID or with a parent present. Y memberships will be unrestricted from June 23 through September 8.

West Roxbury YMCA Teens Go & See Celtics Beat the Heat

West Roxbury YMCA Teens, staff and family members received free tickets courtesy of Dunkin' Donuts.

  I can still hear the roar of the crowd as Lebron James fouled out of the game in the last seconds of overtime. At last night's Game 4 of the Celtics versus the Heat playoff series, the West Roxbury YMCA Teens erupted in excitement. On Friday, the West Roxbury YMCA received tickets from Dunkin' Donuts to sit in the Kid Zone. We were able to invite eight teenagers and 13 family members (some who had never been to a Celtics game). The teens and I hopped aboard our Y van and headed to the Garden. We got in and headed for our seats (which were awesome), we sat down and the game started. West Roxbury YMCA Camp Counselors Bring the Fun to Summer Camps

YMCA camps are available for youths of all ages, with lots of field trips, athletics and fun. Ropes courses, hiking - and what's your favorite camp snack?

  Leadership reflects attitude. So parents make a mental note - the following camp counselors at the YMCA programs are fun and sily, enjoy healthy snacks, and know when it's time to be serious. They're also First Aid Certified, enjoy taking field trips, keeping kids engaged, and climbing on ropes courses.   Several counselors from the West Roxbury YMCA's summer camps: Little Bear, Big Bear, Dedham Enrichment Camp, and Hale, sat down with Patch to talk about what makes a good counselor and what they like best about camp. Part of $10.8-Million Tax Exempt Bond to Help Rehab YMCA

A state bond will help fund the rehabbing of two Greater Boston YMCAs, including West Roxbury's.

  Editor's note: The following is a press release. MassDevelopment has issued a $10.8 million tax-exempt bond on behalf of the YMCA of Greater Boston, founded in 1851 as the country’s first Y. The West Roxbury YMCA will be redeveloped and renovated with this bond. Improvements to the West Roxbury facility include a renovated gym and pool, a health and wellness center, awelcome center, an aquatics center, locker rooms, an expanded childcare area, enhanced space for youth sports, and programs for children with special needs. The Huntington Avenue Y’s addition will have a pool, gym, handball courts, and offices, with renovations to locker rooms, classrooms, meeting rooms, the lobby, reception area, and wellness and fitness areas. This is great news! The Y is badly in need of renovations and the open space on Centre street will provide a great place for the Y to hold Zumba classes and Boot Camps. The expansion of the Wellness Center and pool are going to make a huge difference to Y members. We can finally hold swim meets at the Y! I can’t wait for construction to start.   more ›

Dedham Foundation Contributes $5,000 to YMCA of Greater Boston

Funds will go to lowering after school childcare programs run by the YMCA.
